They're only giving £50 insurance which isnt ideal :D I would also like a company to give me a cheaper price if I was to use them regularly as parcel2go do and pppay etc.. I suppose p4d do also, but with ppp the price is cheaper and I get £100 insurance

Right, I now am looking for a courier reseller with some sort of compensation and cheap and one of the "main ones"-for paypal etc... for delivery from the UK to the Scottish Highlands, UK Islands and Northern Ireland. Most buyers will probably be in mainland UK however I would like to get a computer to the places said above pretty cheaply :D Im pretty chuffed that ppp charge £7.09

EDIT: Ive seen p4d do a pretty good deal but the channel islands are delivered under the Euro plus service. It would be nice if I could get a cheaper deal than p4d for non mainland UK delivery :D

    collectmyparcel are pretty expensive tbh

Oh cant remember the company now, but hopefully if mention idea, it might tigger someone else memory to give the name, other option you can do Waqasahmed is post with say p4d, but get your postal insurance from a third party. Which can be more benefital even if cost a bit more cause can get cover that is made to your requirements.

Rather then limit your choice of carrier to those with the level of insurance you would like you can choose to use self insurance but this isnt for everyone of course. The chances of it going missing with a tracked signed for service are small yet you can pay 5% to 10% of the parcels value in insurance on a £150 package to the parcel carrier, and thisd deosnt take into account the £50 that is included for staters free so your loss is only the extra £100 on a £150 parcel. This means that more than say one in 15 of your parcels must be lost before you are a loser with self insurance. It also saves arguments with the parcel carrier about its value and lengthy time consuming claims and forms and waiting.
In my experience your chances of wining a claim for damage are small unless they run over it with a fork truck or something similar so good packing is your insurance against damage in transit.
My golden rule with insurance is the insurance company want to make a profit from insurance - some of them make more money from insurance than from the service so your average guy must do better to take the odd knock himself. The exceptions to this is something that could wipe you out like a house fire or overseas medical bill and car insurance where it is a legal requirment
  • Another 'newbie' here.

As a small business owner, selling over the internet I too have been exploring different companies for delivery during the RM strikes. I aleady use a combination of Parcel2Go, PayPerparcel, depending on where the parcels are going.

I was sent an email by Parcel2go announcing a new £3.99 rate. My interest soon ended when I saw the conditions.

    • The earliest available collection date is Monday 19th Oct 2009.
    • There is a collection surcharge of £5 on this service.
    • You must have at least 3 DHL UK parcels in your order.
    • This service is not a signed for service. Although over 80% are signed for.
    • Parcels on this service must fit in an A4 jiffy bag and weigh approx. 2kg.

I was particularly interested in the '£5 collection surcharge'. Their customer service operator told me the £5 charge is added per collection...so a min 3 parcel collection goes up by £5 divided by 3...so that £3.99 becomes £4.67. Plus Vat, approx £5.37.

Whilst that is not a bad rate, I cant help feeling that they have taken some tips from Ryan Air on charges. The £5 collection surcharge is odd. And annoying. So its NOT a £3.99 service.

I think what annoys me most is that I hate being taken for a mug, so my business goes elsewhere, but I know a lot of people will see the headline £3.99 and be drawn in. And they even got a plug on the Jeremy Vine show. They didnt mention the £5 collection surcharge, surprise surprise.

    Hi

collectmyparcel.com may not be the cheapest for UK domestic services but they're customer service is fantastic. They're cheaper than Parcel2go and Parcel Monkey once you have anything heavier than 10kg.

I've used them for DHL services to Europe too and they were the cheapest I found. Same prices as P4D once you've set up an account to get 5% off.

I'm not connected with collectmyparcel.com and I've used the likes of Interparcel etc too. Just found them also to be fast and friendly whenever I've had a problem.

    Hi
I would recommend a company called Interparcel ,as i have an interest in old Motorcycles and buy and sell on Ebay and need a reliable form of delivery
Interparcel use companys like DHL TNT Citylink and you use their accounts to send your items so you can send 1 item at a time, and they have an easy to use website which will give you a discount if you register.and they email you all the necessary Waybills and Customs Docs. to print and attach.
They will also collect items for you.
I have sent more than 30 items to the within the UK, Europe and the USA and had no problems so far,and you can track you goods online.

As an example i recently sent a 5kg parcel to a customer near Greenville SC in the USA,The Cost was £33.00 with DHL,The parcel was collected from my home address at 11.45 am on Thursday Morning and was delivered the next Day at 6.15pm GMT.

My PC's are more than likely to be 10kg. Also with ppp, with items weighing over 10kg, I got the same price, but I was just wondering whats this self insurance stuff all about? Unfortunately, I pretty much have to keep my postal prices low, because of competition. How would I go about "self insuring" a parcel? Is it that I have to walk down to a DHL depot instead of them coming to me? That does seem ideal, seeing as though its a pain to wake up really early in the morning just for DHL :D

Also, I understand from the eBay forums, that a good seller pays for return postage as well if an item is returned. Some people dont have printers in their houses, so they cant really print off a DHL receipt to stick on the parcel, but with Interlink thats not needed. They work like how royalmail work in this context :D Am I right in thinking that CCL Logistics will be my best bet for an Interlink service. Well for return postage, Im looking for a non DHL service(ie a service like RM with regards to sending parcels) and one that will be OK in non mainland UK. CCL Logistics only cover mainland UK

EDIT: I remember also seeing myhermes and collectplus :D unless of course them two companies require to print off a note as DHL do?

EDIT EDIT: Collect plus wont go over the 10kg unfortunately, as some PC's might weigh 11kgs etc..

As someone who lives in the highlands I have found that sometimes its worth going direct rather than resellers. I sent an item the other day and was quoted. Parcel monkey - £15.99 (through DHL) - parcel2go - 14.99 (through DHL as well) both these only had £50 compensation as standard I need up to £100 and they wanted another £2.50 to up the compensation.

I then got a quote directly with DHL and it was 12.99 including £100 compensation which was also cheaper than parcelforce

So after you have got a quote from a reseller its worth checking the company directly

There's a Staples near me, so am looking at using the DHL Servicepoint they have.

I can't see if it I MUST use a DHL packaging box for items - does anyone know?
