yesterday MyHermes dropped my item on a porch. The delivery address was a unit on a business park.

Today Yodel failed to show - lied and said he couldnt find my address. Yodel are here nearly every day and im on a main road.

Its nearly christmas - when yodel start dumping small sellers in it - and concentrate of very and amazon etc.
  • I have a wall plaque of Madonna being sent to Devon, it measures 31" x 22", and I don't know whether to go through a courier or just take it to the post office. I set the price at 15 pounds so im hoping it's within that range. Guessing, I would put the weight at 4-5kg.

Which courier would you recommend? How would you package it?

It has a glass front and is worth around 50 pounds.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Debts:
    Car:
    [STRIKE]£4844.34[/STRIKE] £0!
    Wedding: [STRIKE]£2500[/STRIKE] £1000

Deadline - June 2013 (Immigration to USA)

However you package it you will have no insurance for glass.
If it is a piece of thin sheet glass like in the front of a picture i would think the chance of it arriving in one piece are small.
You need a box that is at least 100mm bigger all around than the item, you need to support the glass on the inside and the outside of the wall plaque with bubble wrap. When you have finished packing it imagine dropping it from shoulder height onto a concrete floor and only when you think it will survive that should you give it to any carrier.

I have a few Christmas gifts to send to family in Wales from Northetn Ireland. I would hate for the gifts to get lost or not be delivered as they are for children. I usually just post them but am looking at whether it would be more cost effective to use a courier service- any recommendations?

As above, you'll need to give the courier gurus some help here:

box size, weight and insurance value at the very least. Being in Northern Ireland *might* mean you are better off with Royal Mail- but I'm sure the experts here will give you some idea once they know what they are dealing with. Who have you tried so far?

I buy stamps in bulk at a discount then stick them on.

£2.20 currently costs me £1.72, I buy the stamps from a company called BB Stamps. They will be a mix of books, part sheets, etc but all usable.

If you buy over £200 face value of stamps they post them to you for free - I bought £240 of stamps and they charged me £187.20.

Plus you can stick the stamps on, walk into the post office, stick the parcel in their big grey bag and walk out again - no queueing!!

I just write '£2.20 xx grams' next to the stamps and '2PK SECOND CLASS PACKET 2PK' near the top.

    Gary.
I would worry that these are cleaned up used stamps at such a discount.

Get a quote for UPS Express Saver service from https://www.transglobal.org.uk. You should be ok having it collected up to about the 16th or 17th Dec to ensure it arrives in Oz before Xmas (you might want to check those dates if you're leaving it that late).

    Can anyone help me?

I need to send a parcel (Boxed Lego) to Switzerland. Which is too big for Airmail.

I (stupidly) didn't realise that Airmail had a combined dimensions limit of 90 cm and my parcel comes to 94 cm, with a weight of 1.5 Kg so I had given the postage option for that region as £10.82, which is the cost price for that weight by Airmail.

At the PO I was told that the cheapest option is Parcelforce Global value at £32.30. This covers up to £100 value (my item sold for £72). This is over £21 more than the postage cost I charged.

Do I take this on the chin or are there any other cheaper options?

Weirdly if I got to Parcel2go it comes up with a price of £16.99 for 'Parcelforce Euro Priority' which is not a service I can see on the Parcelforce website. Also Switzerland is not in the EU. I am a bit wary of Parcel2go having read negative things on this thread.
