  • Recently encountered major issues with Hermes. For two days despite paying upfront for home collection nobody showed up for our parcels. A complaint to the company revealed that nobody was available in our area to collect parcels. We ended up spending almost 3 times more to ship by Royal Mail because they had become seriously overdue to our customers. Very unprofessional for such a large company and to top it all off they cannot even say when a courier will be available to resume pick ups. As compensation they offered 10% discount off next collection, quite an insult for disrupting a regular customer and upsetting our customers in the process.
  • Hi,
I have a parcel to send to Hong Kong, and I am looking for advice on which service to use.
    Size is approx 33cm x 33cm x16cm, and weight is 11kg.
Value of the item is £450, and is hi fi equipment which I notice is restricted on some of the parcel websites.
    Any ideas please?

    Hi

Can anyone recommend a courier company that can collect items for delivery within the UK weighing 5kg, and measuring (138cm x 50cm x 5cm)?

The best price I can find is £9.59 including vat, and I'd be most grateful to hear of any better quotes please grin.gif

    Many thanks!

  • Deliver it yourself? For £450 of HIFI I doubt any courier would be mad enough to take it.

Not very practical or cheap, but you'll have a very tough time finding anyone who'll insure that.

Can anyone recommend a courier service to use to send a postal tube to New Zealand? I did an embroidery for my friend who lives in Auckland so whilst the parcel isn't heavy (weighs less than 1kg) it's very valuable (to me anyway - took me AGES to do!). I've never used a courier for anything and I've got really confused looking at websites etc!

Ideally I'd like to keep costs as low as possible but I'm concerned about it going missing (time to deliver isn't so much of an issue) so whilst Royal Mail would probably be cheapest I'm concerned this is more likely to happen with them? Am I just being a bit harsh on RM?

    Thanks!

Personally l would use Royal Mail only due to the fact that should it get lost it is easier to make relevant claims via Royal mail than it is with most of the couriers. Although l should think it would very difficult to put a price on your work. That is also a point to remember, how can you prove a value on the item should you need to make a claim.

Unfortunately you can't insure for sentimental value, only true value, so there is no point in you insuring it for more than it is physically worth.

At less than a kilo, Royal Mail is going to be the cheapest option by quite a lot I would imagine.

It might be slightly safer with one of the larger couriers that have a presence in New Zealand as they will handle it from door-door and should provide tracking along the route.

Royal Mail international tracked services tend to only track whilst its in the UK and rarely when they reach the other country. They will also hand over to the NZ postal service so there are more fingers in the pie as such.

Try http://www.transglobal.org.uk as they should give you the option to select some of the larger couriers.

Its going to be down to cheap price with RM but rubbish tracking or great tracking with a courier but really expensive.
  • Hey,

I'm looking for some advice, most of the couriers I've looked at such as myhermes/collect+ won't send a Christmas food hamper because they are 'perishable' goods.. apart from paying near double to send it via RM (approx £10ish), can anyone else recommend someone who will let me send Xmas food? (They're things like dried biscuits, xmas pudding, xmas cake etc. all with long use by dates and fully packaged.)

    Package weighs 3kg, Length 33cm x Height 17cm x Width 25cm

    Many thanks!
