I need to send some clothes back to France , lets say 2 big suitcases worth of 25kg. I can do multiple boxes or just 2 big ones . What would be the best option ? Do you guys know something quite cheap ?0

I was thinking of bidding on wooden bedstead on ebay and arranging a courier myself for collection and delivery. I've got loads on my watchlist in all areas of the country, so I can't give a specific area. The average weight seems to be around 15kg and the sizes are 200 x 100 x 30cm (this last size is a guess of the packed down size). I'd probably ask for the for the head and foot-board to be separated and packed flat on the bed to reduce the size. Of course if this is going to be too expensive, it's probably not worth my while but I've no way of knowing without a quote.
After reading through the forums for inspiration, the cheapest quote I got was about £35 from Parcel Force, which seems a bit steep. Is this as cheap as I'm likely to get?

Hello:)
I'm hoping for some urgent advice.
I need to post a package containing a mounted portrait (unframed) to the U.S.A. the last time I posted the same size package (containing the same size portrate) was about 2 and a half years ago, I sent it through the post office as "small package" and over a few years I'd posted around about 20 of the same size package, the cost was about £7-00 to £8-00 with no tracking or insurance, the portraits always got to their USA desination on time. I'm now confused because although I expected the package to cost more to send, I didn't expect it to no longer be excepted as a small package, apparently this is due to some kind system of dividing the size of the package by some jiggery pokery thingybob! I'm very bad at understanding figures so it's hard to explain.
My package weighs only 5.86 grams and measures 45cmx59cm and it's only 2cm thick, the size is correct for sending as a package but not when it's been multiplied by the thingbob! I've taken it to two different PO and they except it at first then refuse it after working out the measurements with this division thing:mad: they have offered me parcel force but at the price of £28-00/£30-00 that's 3 times the amout of P&P I've quoted my customer and because the package is so light I'm affraid it will get damaged under all the heavy weight packages! I really need a cheaper alternative or I'm going to have to give up on my overseas commisions because I try to keep my prices low and no-one is going to want to pay soooo much postage:( I need to get this package to my customer very soon. I'm at my wits end:(
Sorry to be so long winded:o
Many Thanks

Many (most?) sellers won't allow you to arrange your own courier so do check before ordering. I assume that you must be buying second hand, because any business seller selling new bedsteads would have their own courier arrnagements. Perhaps a private seller would allow you to send a courier, although they probably won't want to/be able to pack it up very well (and therefore courier is within their rights to refuse to take it). They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -

Thanks for your reply!I will be purchasing second hand. It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation really. Before requesting the use of a courier I'd still like to know how much it's likely to cost? As I said before, if it's too pricey then I just wouldn't bother and will just confine myself to a bed locally.

I currently use parcelbroker.co.uk which is great for EU countries and in particular with some difficult European destinations like Greece and Andorra. However the following countries are very expensive!!
Malta is £69.38 + VAT
Cyprus also £69.38 + VAT
Canary islands is £80.07
I had some alternatives until now but these companies keep disappearing after a bit.
Anybody know a reliable company with considerably lower prices for these destinations?
I send mostly 20-30kg parcels.0 -
I sell a lot of cheap things on Ebay. For just a few pounds. Are there any alternative ways to send post cheap rather than going to the post office. I know there are a few companies that specialize in big items but what about small items?
For example. on a few occasions, I have went to the post office and been charged £2.20 to send an item. But because its VERY slightly too big to fit through the gap in their board thing, it doesnt get sent for 69p. Big difference between 69p and £2.20 especially when your sending a lot of stuff. Just because the package is a little too big!
Post office has been such a rip off since they introduced the weight and size!0
