Cheap Parcel Delivery Official Discussion

Well, my power board was shattered. Probably due to someone smashing the product down. It can happen. The buyer also received the item with the packaging pretty much torn to pieces. Either I got screwed over by the buyer by replacing it themselves with a cracked board or DHL screwed my parcel up. My parcel was in working condition when I sent it out-now I shall have to sell it as faulty0

Parcel2ship.co.uk sent me an email with a 10% discount code for DHL european - excerpt pasted below. I've used them a few times without drama.
Furthermore all customers can save 10% on all non UK parcel deliveries through DHL until 31/10/09. Simply enter discount code P2SDHLOCT09 when you checkout of our store having placed an order0 -
Hi, i've been in lurker in this thread for sometime but finally have something to contribue!!
I've been a user of saletrack, well now its despatch bay for almost a year. Had some good times with them, £5.68 plus vat per parcel - good service.
Well, they have just launched a nice new sparkly website and as a means to fund the website, they have now introduced a 'green charge' which in real terms is a collection surcharge of £1.95 if you have less than 4 parcels to collect.
I was livid when i found this out. While i can see the marketing spin on this, it doesnt disguise the fact that i can sometimes have 3 DHL drivers collecting and dropping off different parcels on one day. think they need to get their own house in order before they impose a green tax like this - surely you would have expected a company like DHL to be able to minimise the number of collections and deliveries to the same address?!!
Just asked for my account to be closed and the balance of my account to be refunded to which i have been told its a 'pay as you go' service - 'like a mobile phone' and they have refused my refund. I have never had their terms and conditions through and even on their website there is no mention of this.
Looking around on other forums, it seems like they have annoyed and alienated a large number of their customers with people jumping ship to other low cost providers.
I've now switched to parcelmonkey at £6 plus vat (plus quidco cashback :j ) and hermes for sub 2kg parcels at £3.99 inc vat.
I like the idea of collect+ but as a small business, i'm not sure how my customers would react to having to go to a nearby shop to collect their parcel.0 -
Help urgently needed!
I have a small online retail business and need to find an alternative to Royal urgently, due to the strikes. I have been looking at other couriers and getting rates but I can find anything anywhere near as cheap as Royal Mail.
We mostly send out t-shirts by 1st class - and offer free postage on all UK orders as it only costs us about 80p per t-shirt.
We send out about 300 items a week weighing on average 200-250 grams.
So far the cheapest thing I've found is £4.60 for next day deivery - thats with Sale Track who re-sell DHL. And it's not even guarenteed next day delivery so we can't really replace the Royal Mail Next day delivery which is guarenteed. Also - this doesn't include northern ireland - it's £10.63 for next day to NI. Wheras Royal Mails sepcial delivery does include NI.
But we need something to replace the 1st class option which we don't charge for - we can not afford to offer the above next day delivery service for free. Any ideas? Does a solution exist?
Another problem is the international deliveries - can't find anything cheap enough. Seems to be a lot of options for delivery of heavy goods but not light items.
Help much appreciated.

you wont find a rival for RM's prices
what you are getting is about as cheap as it gets
only thing cheaper really is downstream access for large sellers which of course use RM's network0 -
you could probably do a catch up on GMTVs website-don't know how long they take to put up the programmesWho made hogs and dogs and frogs?

As custardy says, you are going to struggle to beat royal mail prices.
I've been using saletracks 48 hour service for the last year and they do tend to get there next day, it would be very unusual for it to take >24hours. just make sure you are sending more than 4 a day otherwise they will sting you with collection charges. also watch out with your account balance with them, they will refuse to refund any account balance if you decide to leave them as i have.
Next cheapest would be myhermes - £3.20 plus vat but it can take 3-5 days.0 -
Hey guys..just thought I'd update you. I've decided to go with P4D - they matched the quote of £4.15 for DHL 48 with Sale Track. And no collection fees! The guy has spent a long time with me on the phone today too (nearly all afternoon) - very impressed so far!
We're just going to give this option as an extra on the site and highly recommend that our customers go for this service as we can't guarentee timeframes with Royal Mails services.0 -
My top tips for parcel delivery:
http://www.myhermes.co.uk
They do a 3-5 day delivery, so far 3 for my last orders. Lots of options, good prices starting at £3.99, you do have to print out a label though.
My other choice is:
http://www.payperparcel.co.uk
Who are very good, used them lots of times over a long time period, no complaints at all. And great if you want to pick stuff up from someone else as no labels needed. Sent many items and courier never wants a label.
I can get you 20% off your first order with MyHermes but you will need to PM me if you want to do that. (No I don't work for them, just happy customer)0 -

I was just about to ask if anyone has used my hermes. I live in whats counted as a remote area so price wise they look really good. Probably going to give them a try0
