hi i have an electronic item valued at £1000 at the minute on ebay, i have had an email from someone in new zealand aning to buy. i know the postage will be dear and we have come to aggrement about this, but they say it has to be marked as gift nz dollars 400. to cover myself i want to get the item insured. can anyone give me advise on sending this?
many thanks
You will have to provide with the item 3 or 4 copies of a signed invoice or packing list with a declaration of its value that you give to the courier allong with the parcel. These are used by customs here and in NZ. whatever value you put will be the value you can insure it for so you cannot say it is worth £200 then insure it £1000 and expect to get £1000 if it gets lost. Declaring items as a gift when they have been sold is also committing an offence. Here is a link to a typical document you will complete

have a read of that then decide.0 -
Has anyone ever sent a bike?
My son is trying to send a racing bike from Northumberland to Nottingham 13kgs 130 x 60 x 100 cms. He can take off a wheel and get it down to 120cms but don't know if that will help much.
So far the quotes have been £150+.
Anyone know of a better deal?
Thanks0 -

Have you used them yourself?
have you factored in ample packaging?(road bikes are fragile things) and compensation cover?0 -
Nope, it's not mine so am just passing on quotes to him. I will remind him about packaging changing the size though, thanks!
I did see that the insurance is up to £500 free of charge though...good eh?0 -
