Ive used myhermes https://www.myhermes.co.uk/wps/portal/PN_CTR/?utm_campaign=disp0509&utm_medium=disp&utm_source=eby&utm_content=noQ for my heavier parcels ,its a lot cheaper than Royal Mail but you have to wait for the person to collect from your home.
You can when you book the collection specify a place where you will leave the parcel so you don't have to wait in but if the person who collecting doesn't read the details on the invoice ( twice now) they will leave a card to say you were not at home when they tried to collect and they will try again tomorrow.
  • Hi there

I need to send a very heavy parcel from northern ireland to england, Approx 30kg, and was wondering the best way to send it.

    Hope someone can help
    Thanks
  • I have bought a car part off someone and have to arrange a courier. Can the item be left under a trailer from where it's being picked up from or does the other person need to be in and physically hand the item to the courier?

Under the rules, most couriers should make sure that a person is in, before it is handed over. The likelihood is that they will have to be in. Some drivers will collect from the house and just take the item, but they are few and rare(for good reasons)

I guess it may be down to individual drivers - although I have found in general that DHL drivers will take parcels left out for them, but CityLink will not.

  • Right, having a nightmare, here is the situation:
I have bought a car part off someone which weighs about 10kg. I want to arrange a courier to pick it up but having problems finding one. I was going to use myhermes but you have to print the label for it, however that is impossible as the parcel is 300 miles away.
Is there a courier where you can have something picked up and brought to you or do they all work like Royal Mail where you have to send something from me to somewhere - I want the other way round - from somewhere to me.
Hope someone can help as I'm tearing my hair out here!

Hi, have a look at collectmyparcel.com. DHL services and no special labels needed.

I booked and paid for a collection on Monday this week, courier failed to arrive. This was rescheduled to Tuesday, Courier failed to arrive. I have sent several emails to them to find out when this will be collected. NOTHING. I finally contacted the courier myself to be told that Parcel Monkey had cancelled the collection TWICE. I have now wasted 3 days waiting for the collection

They have not had the courtesy to contact me to advise what is happening and neither have they refunded me the money. So apart from the cost of the shipment I am also out of pocket for the cost of the phone call (plus the 3 lost days). I will now need to rebook with another company.

Its impossible to communicate with them as there is no phone number and they are particularly useless in responding to emails.

DONT use them if you want to retain your sanity and you want parcels to be collected.

You can also use RM, and get the buyer to print off the label by sending them a link, if they have a printer. If they don't, then City Link will still pick your item up

    Need some help.

I have a large parcel (in fact, a crate) which I want to ship by air from China to UK. Weight 52kg / 0.2cbm.

I have been quoted $550 with UPS. Anyone got any ideas where to look for an alternative better rate.
