Thanks all, just renewed my 'legacy' standard home broadband for another year. 6 months free, but no £30 winter warmer, he said that is for higher packages.

I'm happy with 6 months free
  • I got offered 6 months free on the legacy standard. What are the chances if I call back that I'll get the £30 sweetener? From the reading the past couple of pages, it looks quite rare (maybe even a mistake?)
  • I am currently on home broadband premium (legacy) and paying £13 per month (£5 discount for mobile phone). Having read the link regarding the 12 months free, I phoned up yesterday evening and after have to wait 15mins on the phone was offered £2.50 discount and month or 3 months free – worth £39.

Was really disappointed by this so spent last night looking for better alternatives and couldn’t. I believe that the legacy package represents the best value for money on the market at the moment without taking phone line rental.

Following advice decided to phone up and try again first thing this morning. Didn’t have to hold, apparently the code for a years half price wasn’t compatible with legacy products, however they could offer me 6 months free and remain on legacy.

So thanks to all the posters above for their advice and thank you to the nice lady at O2 who retained a happy customer.

If you are on an access package they offer you nothing it seems.

Isnt 6 months free the same as 12 months half price? without the £30
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

In theory yes its the same, but thinking about it, its more.

I am currently topping up my sim £10 each quarter hence £40 per year. Six months free means I only have to top up the last two quarters of the year. So in principle thats a £20 saving - Hence £20 better off, or 2 months BT line rental.

Personally I think its stupid way of doing it and I would rather be paying £6.50 a month, than getting the full bill at winter / christmas when expenditure is at its highest. As for the £30 I know some have got but I wasnt going to push for that as I was happy with my offer.

Not sure if the none topup would work, as they may just add an automated discount, which if the topup wasnt done it would be £5 odd higher

It does work - people have reported it last year.

Basically my price at the moment, according to my bill is £14.50 ( it's normally £9.50 with the discount). For the first 6 monhs the whole £14.50 is discounted.
  • I just saw this thread as I was looking for comments on Orange broadband - all of which I saw were bad.

I'm currently with O2 and my contract is just coming up for renewal.

Spoke with a nice chap and I told him straight up I heard of people on here getting great deals for signing up for another 12 months and he offered me the 12 months half price and 30 quid cash which I took. He said that I was a little early (renewal is end of March) but gave me the offer anyway as it expires tomorrow.

Thanks all! Saved myself £246 tonight over 12 months! I was wanting to stay with o2 anyway but was wanting a better price, so this worked out great for me!
