"Bullying" on the forum

  • Wasn't going to bother posting on here but the more I think about the entire "bullying thing" more I want to.

It seems to me that there are a number of issues at the moment. As the entire OS board gets more popular and more people post then the chances of a troublemaker/stirrer appearing become greater

please note I am not accusing any new poster of this-simply stating the more people involved the more chance of disagreements.

Is the board a victim of its own success? If so that would be a real shame
Anyway, I do think that there are posters with their own agendas on here.
Comments and posts that to me at least, seem to be simply put there to get a reaction or to upset people. Is that bullying?
I think this is deliberate and very divisive.
The OS board deserves better than that.
I think the problem re "bullying" is that often things snowball and others get involved.

I think the key is to ignore posters that you know you have/may have a problem with.
I have had a couple of "run ins" with a couple of posters on threads and via PM:eek: but as far as I am concerned its a five minuite wonder.
They said their bit, I said my bit, end of.

That is how I see this board-we can disagree with each other but then there are no hard feelings. That is what happens in the real world why should OS be any different:confused:.

I think we all have a view of what OS( and also this board) is and I do sometimes feel that there is perhaps a bit of a "bossy" tone.
My wife who has been a member of MSE for many many years would never ever post on OS under any circumstances for this reason.

Finally, my personal view of this board is that it has not been the same since last October's "redefining thread" I get rather fed up when I read posters appologising for posting on the daily as they "haven't been very OS" buts thats just my view:o(sorry for bringing it up again but it has changed the board)

This board belongs to all of us.

If anyone p****s me off I have a very simple means of dealing with them. I press ignore.

I think you two are going to have to agree to disagree on whether agreeing to disagree is agreeable or disagreeable.
    :p

    Can we not just disagree?

Sort-of off topic: that's three people who've disagreed with me. That's a clique. You're all bullying me now! :p
I presume you are saying this slightly 'tongue in cheek', but it does illustrate how some people may see something as bullying whereas others may simply see it as disagreeing!
Just because 3 or 4 people all disagree with a poster does not mean they are bullying said poster!

Sorry for missing something here but what is "OS"? I thought it was one of the forum areas. Is this the case? What's the significance?

OS is 'Old Style' (but confusingly also how I sign off, OrkneyStar!).
I think OS has traditionally been seen as a friendly board and there is concern it is not so!

Yes, I was trying to humorous, hence the emoticon. But this corresponds with a post on this thread earlier about how you interpret a reply in the absence of tone or para-language. You're completey right in what you've said.

But what I refuse to do. On here, any other forum or IRL.

Off topic, but is there a way to switch nested quotes on. Often the point is missed without them?

I can live with that. We arn't going to change each other's view (and why should we)?

    Oh look, we're respectfully disagreeing!

Should we meet IRL (does this forum do IRL meets?) then I'll accept my slap 'round the noggin as well deserved. :D

    .
Exactly, I think Momoyama's point is that argument doesn't constitute bullying and people should try not to get upset if someone has a different opinion.

Just noticed you're in Worcester too Momoyama ;) (by the way my use of the winky smilie is to convey a wink and a smile and not to be patronising).
