You seem not to mention any other games, so your saying that all other titles have lag?
I play a number of PS3 games online and have had no lag whatsoever. Which game is it you experienced lag on? COD, LBP, Pain, Need for Speed and Formula one are all fine for me.
Looks like a george foreman Better than a toaster perhaps! Remind me not to have beans on toast at yoursThe XBOX's just look grubby after a while being white.
Mine broke twice so I went back to 360 Universally known to be more reliable than the Xbox :rotfl: Seen watchdog of late? and my 2 PS3's went pop after one week and 2 days respectively I've never had any problems with my PS3 and I've been using it constantly for a year. My friend has had his PS3 break (read below) I had an XBOX fail on me though, so have a few of my mates. My xbox was out of warranty by 2 weeks and Xbox wouldn't warrant it. My friends PS3 needed a new hard drive. His was 4 months out of warranty. They replaced it free of charge.
Soft touch buttons were rubbish Fine for me! You are alone in this Nope, they were fine for me and my mates too. Maybe you have fat fingers?
Non universal headsets, sound was rubbish The official Sony headset work a treat with HQ sound ! Now that it has been eventually release, mind you the cutting out was naff Never had any cutting out whatsoever.
No backwards compatability My 60Gb has backwards compatibility ! Yeah and when it goes wrong they will replace it with a version that wont be backwards compat, happened to a couple of gamers I know who are now 360 converts Mine isn't backwards compatible but for me this isn't an issue. I can see why it would be annoying though.
Pricy for initial pay out. At £180 for a 'Phat' that plays games, blu-rays, browses the internet, wireless media centre... seems like good value to me....... To you maybe, but others would disagree Would they? You couldn't even get a bottom of the range PC for that price. The PS3 has everything Brian mentioned above (in Green) and is still below the £200 price tag. If you wanted a pc that would do everthing the PS3 does you would be looking at the £500 mark easy.

yes its possible but not in all formats
the amp tells me when its getting 5.1 so the same file via PS3/360 shows what its getting from either
I never said all formats work. But I have approx 50+ movies in 5.1 DD or DTS that play perfectly on my PS3
Formats are generally M2TS, MPG or MP4:idea:0 -
below £200 for a current PS3?0

My son is saving to buy a new game console to replace the PS2 which is better the PS3 or the Xbox360. Also which ps3 or xbox to go for as there are several options. Confused mother asking these questions! Thanks
There's no straight forward answer to this, as you've probably discovered reading this thread. Both consoles have their merits and die-hard followers.
I'd just like to add my 2p worth and add to the replies suggesting you find out what all his mates use.
You don't say how old he is, but if he's anything like my teenage nephew (my sons are both under 3 and don't play yet) he'll be online a lot playing games against/with his friends. If he has a 360 and they have PS3s, it won't work.
This raises the issue of how to connect to the internet. It depends on what network equipment (internet access) you already have at home, if any. That is, do you already have a wireless home network you wish to utilise, or can you place the console near a router/modem for wired connectivity? I think wired is a better choice than wireless so should always be aimed for, but it's not always easy to accomplish. The 360 is at a disadvantage as it doesn't come equipped out of the box for wireless connectivity, but it can be done. (See here. There are other retailers and prices.) But if the console is going to be within range of a router/modem for easy wired connection, then it's immaterial.
Don't let paying for online access for the 360 put you off. It can be found very cheaply online (cheaper than the RRP you'll find in most stores) and it's worth it. I'd go as far as to say it's a must have to get the best out of it. With that goes the need for models with larger hard drives, i.e. the 120gb and 250gb Elites, as he'll be downloading content, e.g. Arcade games, demos, maps.
I've never been online with the PS3, all I know is what I've read and that is the 360 online experience is superior to the PS3. If you want more than that, Google it.
You won't go wrong with either - but find out what your son wants/needs first. Take the points raised by all these replies and decide whether they're applicable to you, e.g. do you need the Blu-ray feature, if you do, then the PS3 may be the way to go (as a device that will kill two birds with one stone, games and films), if not, (your son just wants to play games) then move on to the next point as both consoles are still in the running...0 -
