I would be very surprised if Microsoft released a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360.

Ballmer says they will, but Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft’s Group Product Manager for the Xbox 360 says they won't.

I can't see it being used for games, as that would fracture the market, and I can't imagine many companies rushing to spend millions creating blockbuster titles for use with the Blu-ray player if only a portion of Xbox 360 owners will be able to use them.

I also can't see it being used just for movies either. You can get a standalone Blu-ray player in the States for less than $100, so making one that also necessitates the use of an Xbox 360 in order for it to work would be a pointless endeavour.

I guess both these objections could be done away with if they make the thing absolutely dirt cheap. So dirt cheap, that every kid could afford one from their pocket money. But considering a simple wireless adapter for the Xbox 360 cost £60 when it was introduced, it seems unlikely that it will be inexpensive.

The Xbox 360 makes little enough money as it is anyway for Microsoft to go around giving thing away. Any accessory released will be released to try and make a profit, which means my objections will stand and it'll be a waste of everyone's time.

Xbox for me, and why I dont like PS3

Too much lag on PS3, no wonder its free Try MAG, you & 256 others online with no lag!
Looks like a george foreman Better than a toaster perhaps!
Mine broke twice so I went back to 360 Universally known to be more reliable than the Xbox
Soft touch buttons were rubbish Fine for me!
Non universal headsets, sound was rubbish The official Sony headset work a treat with HQ sound !
No backwards compatability My 60Gb has backwards compatibility !
Pricy for initial pay out. At £180 for a 'Phat' that plays games, blu-rays, browses the internet, wireless media centre... seems like good value to me.......

    ;)..................

lol so no backwards compatibility cant be a con because you have it?
  • X-Box 360 is better. Reliability problems (Red Ring of Death) haven't been as much of a problem since the new improved model was released last October.

Also, the games are much cheaper than PS3. Even after 12 months, many top PS3 titles are still £25+ on Amazon. XBox also have a much better selection of games available.

One thing to note is about hte next "360" update.

It's going to stop the ability of using "3rd party" memory cards (So your stuck with the expensive Microsoft offical ones Examiner.com

But I will add in a lot of new features (like 1080i(/p?) HD from Zune)

If i had to get one, Personally I'd go with the PS3.

    PS3 also has ~
VIDZONE - watch 'on demand' videos for free
    BBC I PLAYER built in
    BROWSE ONLINE
    VIEW FAMILY PHOTOS
UPSCALE ALL VIDEO CONTENT (Direct off hardrive, dvd, bluray, USB device or streamed)
Customise desktop, view slideshows, rip music, download demos and movie trailers etc etc etc

I would also put the quality of the sound and picture above the XBOX for movies. I used to have a 1k Pioneer dvd player (very first upscaling dvd player ever released and was classed at the time the very best dvd player on the market for sound and vision)
The PS3 was on a par for sound and BETTER for upscaling
Then a bought a Pioneer LX50 dvd player which was better still
Then I fitted a 16 core braided mains cable to my PS3 (Reduces 'mains bourne' interference and airbourne EMI). The difference to sound was staggering (Bare in mind I do have a VERY expensive home cinema setup though)
People thought the PS3 was overpriced when it came out (And still do)
If they realised just HOW good it really is they might well change their minds

BBC I PLAYER built in got it on cable
    BROWSE ONLINE got PC's
VIEW FAMILY PHOTOS as can the 360
UPSCALE ALL VIDEO CONTENT (Direct off hardrive, dvd, bluray, USB device or streamed) i stream to both, the 360 has better support for some sound codecs
Customise desktop, view slideshows, rip music, download demos and movie trailers etc etc etc demos and stuff, suppose the xbox does it but i dont really use that sort of stuff
