My son is saving to buy a new game console to replace the PS2 which is better the PS3 or the Xbox360. Also which ps3 or xbox to go for as there are several options. Confused mother asking these questions! Thanks

PS3 all the way for me, if your son wants to play online then its free with the PS3 and you dont need to buy a wireless adaptor, however if he had a 360 and wanted to play online then he would need to pay a monthly fee.

Apart from the price I cant think of a single reason to get a 360 over a PS3

Thing is it depends on the type of games
I have both and use both too because I like games that you cant get on the PS3 and I also likes games you cant get on the xbox if that makes sense

You get more gadgets with the PS3 though

If hes only into games then id go with an XBOX (Even though I detest Microsoft)
If he wants a quality dvd player, bluray player, connection to the net etc as WELL as playing games then go for a PS3
The PS3 also has a wireless card built in (Unlike the XBOX). Online is free with the PS3 too (Unlike the XBOX)
You can buy a 250 Gig PS3 slim for 250 quid now

You'd be better off asking your son what consoles his friends have got, as playing with each other online will be one of the most important factors to take into consideration.

If he plays more online games then an xbox 360 is better, if he likes more rpgs and watch HD movies then a ps3 is better. But this difference is getting smaller and smaler with time. I would follow the advice of anewhope and get the one that his/her friends have as then they can swap games.

Also if you want to save lots of money then register to lovefilm or some rental company as for £18 you can play as much as three games at the same time a month (one normal game is about £45 when new)!

We already rent games rather than buy. Friends have xbox. Which xbox is best he is thinking of the most expensive because of the hard drive.

This old chestnut eh! Well I've owned both and currently have a PS3 and I think its far superior to the xbox. All the poeple who used to say the games on the Xbox were so much better don't really have an argument as the PS3 has caught up.

The PS3 is more future proof, it has the built in blu-ray player, free online play etc. However, if all his friends have xbox then I would suggest going for that.

Personally, I think the PS3 is better by far, but that does not mean its right for everyone.

Not true, the Xbox is still a very good system and the games are on par with that of the PS3.
