Thank you for the most interesting information. The other day I was shocked to see a banner advert at the top of my Orange email inbox, directed at me. I know this because I had been checking out white TVs on the M & S website, and there they were - all three of them, with photos and serial numbers, in an advert for 'Your M & S'. Certainly not 'my' M & S and I would like to know whether what is their role in this 'in your face' advertising.
On checking the same webpage through Internet Explorer, a random insurance company ad appeared, no connection with my browsing.
Firefox support have suggested Adblocker, but I would really like to get to the bottom of which organisation is invading my privacy and deal with them accordingly!.
Apart from the obvious Firefox, Orange is mentioned in connection with Phorm, also Talk Talk, who I think own the ISP in question (Nildram). Then there is search engine, Google.......
Incidentally the current Firefox version on this PC is Firefox/3.5.7
Would be grateful for further advice!0 -

Security set up? I suppose just the most recent AVG free scanner, plus Vista Windows Defender. We sometimes run programmes such as Ad Adware or SpyBot, but they often seem to cause everything to slow down, or even sometimes crash (?clashes)0

Re 'clashes'. There is no incompatibility between your anti-malware and anti-virus installs. I have no issues with SpyBot but I think AdAware is next to useless. And an ever better alternative would be a periodical clean with Malwarebytes.0
