XP Update issues

    After you've done all this, make sure you go back into Microsoft update and download all of the other recommended updates. This will help to keep your computer secure.

    There might be over 100 of them, depending when they were last downloaded. It sounds like it may be quite a while ago if you're only getting Office XP SP3 now!

    Not necessarily - updates for Microsoft products other than Windows are only downloaded automatically if Windows Update has been upgraded to Microsoft Update.

    OK, started up again and found new hardware wizzard message has appeared saying Audio device on high definition audio bus
    What the hell's that ?

    The updates shield in the taskbar has re-appeared saying it's found 1 update which is what was happening before !

    That's why I assumed that Windows Update had already been upgraded to Microsoft Update, since it was trying to download it automatically in the first place!;)

    But is it for the same update? It might be a different update. Install it as well.

    Just let it run through with the hardware setup. It sounds like you might have no sound. (I would say pun not intended, but you probably wouldn't believe me!:p)

    You are right we haven't had sound on here for a while !

    If you open up word, go to help (I think!), then about. What version does it say you have? Does it give a service pack number?
