How many are you thinking of setting as a subscription limit?

I, and a lot of others on the compers thread, use the subscriptions tick as an easy method to check that I've viewed a comp and so don't need to waste time opening that thread again. Taking this away will make this whole process a lot more difficult and time consuming than it is already. I do understand your problems but please don't make this so much worse for all of us compers who use this unless you can give us something else whereby we can mark threads we have viewed as subscribing does.

If it's the volume of subscriptions thats the problem, maybe have a setting to remove subscriptions when comps are moved to game over/expired :)

I would have thought that it would have been better to put in place a proper system for tracking comps before restricting the number of threads that mse'rs are allowed to be subscribed to,

as quite a few mser's are subscribing to every thread as a way of seeing which competitions they have entered mainly because they have read the comping guide which advises them to do so!

if there was a button you could click on to say that you have entered a comp and this put a little tick on the main page then mser's wouldn't need to subscribe to every thread thereby freeing the much needed resources

this would also be hugely beneficial to everyone on mse who regularly enter competitions as they would be able to see at a glance from the main page which comps they have entered without clicking on multiple links only to find that they have already entered

Just a thought, some of the other forums I use have the facility to "mark as read" any post you have already seen. I wonder if the techies would be able to introduce a similar facility so that those who subscribe to comps at the moment could "mark as read" instead??
Thanks to all who post comps :A :T

As a regular comper I agree with what the others are saying above - It would be a lot simpler if we could place a mark by each thread on the main comps pages, so we don't have to open each thread to see if we've entered the competition.

Ideally we could have not only a 'mark as read' one, but perhaps even an 'alert' so we know to go back to ones we need to do some work on (those which require tie-breakers etc)

I'm not sure the 'Mark as read' facility would do the job because as soon as someone posts in the thread, it would become unticked.

  • This will be a shame as I have subs on threads going back ages that do occasionally get updated by people searching for the same thing. :(

maybe they could make a mark as read once the thanks button is clicked in the first post so that it shows as done when scrolling through them.
If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.

I use the subscription without emails to see where I am on the competition page list. I think MunchKim's idea is a good one, remove the subscription when the thread moves to game over. Alternatively we just need a tick box on a page to show we have viewed and done with the thread. I would be completely lost if the subscriptions were removed at the moment and it takes ages to check each page to see if thanks has been pressed
    Keep thinking positively
  • Great idea to get rid of some of the old subscriptions. I'm a comper as well and (sorry) have over 40,000  I've been wondering how I can clear some of the old ones.

The main problem I'm going to have is that some of the comps I've subscribed to (so I know I've entered) are still current even though I subscribed back in January.
