Numpty Alert! Sorry, but I'm not that good with technical jargon concerning computers
so could I ask what this will actually mean, but tell me in simple terminology please?
I sub to around 40 threads & they're all over the show, so should I be making a note of which section they are in so I can have a go at finding them again on Friday!
Not a criticism--just a plea for those of us who only know the basics of IT...Thanks.

I now use the subscription facility because my memory is awful. If MSE need to free up space /resources , why not delete really old threads that aren't useful like old comps , old bargains etc ?
im no expert but i would believe its more a database issue
all these subscriptions will be querying the DB for updates to show which ones have new posts
old threads just take up space0 -
Does it make a difference that us compers who use subscribing to track which weve looked at don't have the email changes bit marked?
I have to say though, if you just broke subscriptions (if thats possible) when comps are moved to game over, it would reduce a lot of our subscriptions, mine right now are well over 80,000 but there are only around 5,500 comps active on the board at the moment that I need to keep the tick on so I know if/when they get bumped that i've seen them already as when they get bumped they show as being un-read. I hope that makes sense and it's something you would be able to look intoJust become FTBs & Aiming to be mortgage free by 2034
Thank you to all who post on the comps/freebies forums you've helped us save our deposit :money:0 -
I delete comps which are past from my subs daily, but agree it would all be a lot simpler if there was a way to 'mark as entered' instead (less time consuming for the comper and freeing up space at the same time).0

What about closed threads (that still have alot of very useful information on them)?
eg Orlando/Disney and Las Vegas threads
No-one can post on them because they are closed, but the information is still relevent - it would be terrible if these were deleted!2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

One good way of freeing up a load of bandwith and speeding up the loading of forum pages would be to have a button at the top of each page allowing members to turn off and on the loading of the boxes to the right like " TOP DEALS OF THIS WEEK " and " LATEST MSE NEWS " etc .
These links are not needed in most cases and their removal at the click of a button could cut page load times in particular for slow connections by half .

on hte subject of threads the one thing i am not a fan of is removing a post to join a main previous post which was started about 3-4 years ago. must be time consuming for the guiders? i dont always have time read through 20 odd pages. can we just not leave posts to run their course naturally?family of six - grocery challenge - £480 monthly0

I agree - I have threads on my subs that perhaps only get updated at certain times of the year as they are seasonal (such as teacher presents, or school uniforms), but that I still like to keep an eye on.
Would it not work just as well to remove all the historic 'no notification' subs, and leave the email update ones active, rather than go by the age of the thread?DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
to all the compers moaning, spend some time bookmarking your comps
after the clear out and susbscription changes you can resubscribe to them.
all they are doing is clearing out old subscriptions and changing the default setting.
there willbe 000's of subscriptions nobody will notice or care at losing0
