Do you have any friends or family who know a bit about computers?
He has given you a single core 1.8GhZ processor. Which is a good few years old.
The RAM, you have 1GB which it very low nowadays, although can handle XP.
He is nicking your old parts, selling them, and replacing them with cheaper/worse parts I suspect.
Yes, it looks like that is exactly what he's doing. The processor you've got was released almost 3 years ago. It's a cr*p processor anyway by todays standards. The memory is very poor.
Price wise:
Processor = £30 max
Memory = £15 max
Fan = c£30 max
So £100 labour? What a rip off.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

This completly technically infeasible, this guy is scamming you. It is not possible to 'crack' a hard drive or do anything really to damage it that would reduce its capacity and have it have it report a different model number. They either work (at full capacity) or don't work at all.
If you're very lucky he's unessairly changed your processor and RAM for something of a similar spec. From the sounds of things he's stolen your original hard disk and replaced it with a near useless brick. I'd be very worried something untoward might have happened to your other hardware so definitely try to check what you originally had vs whats currently installed.
Its looking like you've paid £185 for the pleasure of having anything worth stealing from your PC taken by this guy. If you can find your original paperwork/some indication of what you had to begin with and can follow peoples tips on this site to check whats installed now you might scrape together enough evidence to get the police involved.... or at least trading standards0 -

No, that's what is in the box now. It's come from the system properties, so the computer is reporting that's what is present.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

430@180GHZ
1.8GHZ 0.99 OF RAM
.....
If you google 430 1.8GhZ its a Intel Celeron.
Even if they were the originals, he has still charged the OP for a new processor and RAM which they won't have got.0 -

the sticker is still on it it says 2800+ (2.08GHZ)
That'll be the processor name you've given us. Is it a desktop? If so, there should be a model number in small writing somewhere on that label. Possibly SR1234UK. It will be different letters and numbers, but that's the kind of thing you're looking for.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

It could've been something a simple as a virus.
It was hardly likely that the processor would need replacing because of that. And that's the expensive bit! (By the way, do you still have your computer, or did you leave it with them again? If you still have it, can you look up what the processor is by right clicking my computer and going to properties. Also post up how much RAM it states on the same screen.)
I am not sure if the fan ran or computer gets warmI am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:

Oh they've got a new processor all right. But they've replaced an AMD 2800+ 2.08Ghz with an Intel celeron 1.8Ghz. Sounds like a downgrade even before I do any research on it!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0
