It should say at the bottom, you see where it says 2.2Ghz, 3.00GB of RAM.

Yours should say something like that.

Also, in future, if you're up for it, you can replace stuff yourself, its not too difficult

If you go to run, and then type dxdiag does the memory and processor name come up there? Click no if a dialog box flashes up before you get the info.

yes he did say that and he also said he replaced the fan.

its a compaq presario
the sticker is still on it it says 2800+ (2.08GHZ)

Do you have any friends or family who know a bit about computers?

He has given you a single core 1.8GhZ processor. Which is a good few years old.
The RAM, you have 1GB which it very low nowadays, although can handle XP.
