For info a quick check of Ebuyer.com gives current hard disk drive (HDD) prices of

    80GB from £26
    160GB from £28
    250GB from £29
    320GB from £32
    500GB from £35
    640GB from £46
    1TB from £54

They don't sell anything smaller than 80GB.... -for home computing these days an 8GB drive is only really useful as a paperweight/doorstop

If there is no satisfactory outcome, this company should be named and shamed.

Updated.... I rang the company... as it turns out I paid £184 for a new processor, ram and something else and he is admandant that I do not have 8GB hard drive as he would have not recommended me to get the above put into it and told me it is impossible to have a 8GB so I am taking it down to him today as he thinks there is something else up with it.

I siad to him all i know is before I left the computer in I could have microsoft office on my computer and now I cant! he said of course you cant with 8GB!so hopefully its something else.

Interesting response, did you get a receipt/paperwork detailing what exactly they supplied you with for your £184, if not I'd certainly be asking for one (both retrospectively for the 1st attempt and for what they're doing now).

would be interesting to compare this to your original spec which it should be possible to get depending on where/how you originally bought it....

It seems very strange that it would need a new processor, RAM and a hard disk, all at the same time. They replaced just about everything there is in the computer! What exactly was it doing before you had it "fixed?"

I think I've figured out where that HDD came from - according to this, they were used in the original Microsoft Xbox!

....but also thinking Tanglefoot must be having a slightly slow Friday afternoon :p
  • Just had a thought, is it possible that the wrong drivers for the hard drive have been installed? And hence it's only recognising 8GB of a much bigger drive?

The drive reports itself as 'WDCWD80EB-28CGH2', if you look at the OP's post of Yesterday at 5:55 PM.

Thanks everyone ... left the computer in the shop, I do not have much computer knowlegde.. the guy siad he charged me 185 for a new processor, ram and a fan... had a look at it and said my drive is 80b and is cracked! I said well you told me i would have a much better computer if I paid you £185 but since getting it back i have had low disk memory... he said i must have dropped it which I never did!

Quoted me £135 for a new drive and charged me £15 today for the pleasure of telling me my hard drive is cracked!

I left it it in because it kept switching itself off and re booting.
