Off-loading 7 pounds in October

Had a kunch out but walked miles this afternoon. should be about an equal exercise to lunch I think. Even fot DH was puffing and hot after our trek. sady the dog ws still full of beans, poor soul had to stay on her lead, lots of deer, bunnies and game birds about. Holding her on the lead turned into a bit of work out in itself after deer appeared out of a copse just a few yards in front of her.
Most importantly wanted to say how chuffed I am for Posh: two pieces of cake should be balanced by a bit of caution, and exercise: you are doing brilliantly!0 -

I need some help with a question.
For a women loosing weight is less than 1200 calories a day and in the case in question, a lot more than 500 calories under what is burned per day, ever a good idea?
Can you loose weight this way?
Is it ever safe / healthy?
There could be a scientific answer to this question that would need a professional to answer, but peoples actual experiences matter a lot too.
I'm worried about something going on with a long term close friend of mine. Has a history of plunging headlong into extreme measures to try and loose weight which have always had no better than short term and limited success. Seems to be doing again with the usual air of desperation, but for all I know she might have had professional advice... though I doubt it.
I lost sleep over this last night0 -
AdrianHi - sounds worrying indeed. AFAIK you know you should never consume less than your Basal Rate Metabolism or your body goes into starvation mode. There are online calculators for BMR, mine's about 1300.
A 500-cal per day deficit is recommended and it is defo better to make up the difference by a combination of reducing food intake and increasing exercise.
Can you tell us what your friend is doing?Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Great news Tara, well done! You're such a skinnymalinky though, I'd have to chop myself in half to be 9st :rotfl:
Adrian - I don't think I'm really qualified to offer a proper opinion on this. Having said that.... I'm sure these "extreme" diets do work in the short term (and some of them you have to be approved by a doctor before starting so they mustn't be too frowned on by the medical profession surely?) but if you haven't sorted out your relationship with eating healthily and exercising more along the way, it's going to be flipping difficult to maintain the weight loss once you've got to target!0 -
Hi all. I'm a little late coming over here from the September thread, but it's been a very busy few weeks for me.
September was a mixed month, losing 5lbs, but putting 3 of those back on again by the end of the month  so I'm starting October at 11st 5lbs. I'd be happy to be down to 11st by the end of October. Can I be added to the list on the first page please?

Adrian, I've PMed. Talkin about actual calorie intake I find a little exposing and as I said before, I'm wary of entering a discussion that could be used by some as calorie competitiveness: which is a symptom many of us who struggle with food/eating have to fight for continued goo mental health as well as diet health!.
I hope thats ok.0 -

Thanks for that.
My worry was if 1200 for woman is the safe minimum "under all circumstances" the friend in question should have been able to enjoy a moderate portion of roast chicken dinner instead of a rather dissapointing looking bowl of home made vegatable soup with her trying to look happy about it (but she's not fooling any of the adults round that dinner table, we know her too well). Cannot try talk to her about it at the time as there were 5 children aged between 2 and 10 around.
I may have no choice but to convince myself there is a rational reason for doing this and it is under medical supervision and not another extreme attempt with limited and temporary results.0 -

Can you ask her? Maybe call her sometime when she can talk uninterrupted?Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

The only way I could really approach it would be to be chatting with her for a while then then take up the subject. It could be weeks before that opportunity arises. Too many children and dogs around needing looking after when we were all out for a walk on Sunday.0
