I should point out that my MT2ofx is working with QIF without the amended script - just as it comes. Importing into Nationwide with no problem. OFX doesn't.

Do you have more than one Nationwide account set up in Money? If you only have one then there is no choice for Money to make as to where to import the data to, so QIF with the default scripts would work fine too. My problem is that I have four Nationwide accounts! Any QIF file I generate in MT2OFX does not contain any specific account name or number information, only transactions, so Money always asks which account I want to assign it to. OFX seems to work better for me in combination with my script by removing this step.

I have three Nationwide accounts. When I import into Money a list appears to ask me which account this import is to go to. That's fine with me.

My problem with OFX is, I'm sure, related to it getting disconnected from Nationwide and not recovering. When I import an OFX it says somethign about a phone call (I've described it in another post). I was relieved to find I can import QIF without this happening.

Just to say a big thank you for the advice in rpb424's posts - I've now got both my Flex & Credit Card accounts downloading into Microsoft Money with just a few clicks using MT2OFX with OFX output files & the modified Credit Card script. The credit card import just has an extra step to confirm the account to import to but I just need to accept the default at that point. Pleased to see that it remembers previously imported transactions, so I don't need to specify from & to dates for the statements. Until last week I was using a 1% cashback card from Citibank, but they stopped paying cashback on 31 Oct. However, that needed a lot more manipulation to get into Money, so overall I'm reasonably happy (even though my annual cashback will be much less!). Have stopped looking at other accounts for now - until Nationwide drop their next bombshell!
  • Checked as advised vbscript.dll and my version is 5.8.6001.18702 so it doesn't look as though that is the problem.
  • I'm really amazed that Microsoft had no demand for MS Money. It is such an obvious use for a PC and so many of us have multiple accounts and investments. On online alternative would be less attractive due to security reasons. Also can't believe Nationwide withdrew the support with no warning and without even making arrangements to allow manual download of information in a compatible format.

Has anyone used alternatives to MS Money eg. Moneybox or AceMoney? Are there any recommendations?

If you want to prevent Money from asking which account to import data into then you can download a modified csv script that I have created.

This supports Flexaccount, e-Savings, ISA and InvestDirect accounts. To make it work you need to do the following....

    1. Download it to the c:\Program Files\MT2OFX folder.
    2. Open it in WordPad (or any other good text editor). You will find 4 lines about half way down the file called 'SAcct = "xxxxxxxx", relating to the account number of the account named in the line above. Replace xxxxxxxx with the right account numbers and save the file. If you don't use some of these accounts then ignore the relevant line.
    3. Make sure that your Money accounts are also set up to have the account number stored.
    4. Go to the MT2OFX Scripts options, press 'New' and select this new script file. Press 'Update' and make sure it is at the top of the list and is ticked. Untick the old 'Nationwide-CSV.vbs' file.

Now when you import into Money it should match up the account number stored in the OFX file to what it knows as the account numbers and automatically import the data without prompting for an account.

Let me know if these instructions work!!

I have three Flex Accounts and three E-Savings, I presume the above script won't cope with more than one of each account type?

PS. I used the standard script to import and it asked which account, I think I may off selected the wrong one, and now it always imports to the wrong account without asking, any idea how to change it.

Regarding the above, I have altered the IF statements to look for the name of my account's and it seems to work (I didn't get chance to test it much last night), this also leads me to say that your script will only work if the account names have not been changed.

Perhaps it would be better to just test for account names as I have done?

Now how do I get Transfer to import as Transfers?

It may be that my script is no longer necessary. The author of MT2OFX has provided some updated ones for Nationwide. Have a look at...

  • Havent tried your script, but all is working fairly well, except I'm still getting loads of duplicates with the (gold reward) credit card. Dont get them with the flexaccount tho.

The credit card asks for confirmation of which account, but flex doesnt - why/how?, is this why flex is sorting out the duplicates? or is it because the credit card statement has different dates? (sorry, thinking aloud here).

Am i missing something, because i cant seem to select any dates for the credit card csv, it just gives me what it wants, so im stuck with the duplicates.

BTW, the credit card download (and pdf) doesnt contain the unique id that the printed statement does, so it is not a complete replacement - makes the paperless option less attractive.
  • I knocked up something simple for converting Nationwide CSV to OFX, handles all the different types of statements.

since I am a new user then I can't post a direct link, so you will have to make it yourself.
