  • This is so frustrating, but addictive in a strange sort of way!

I can download the cvs file and convert it to ofx automatically with no problems, but the only way I'm getting this into Money 2005 is by opening Money and selecting Import : Download statement from the file menu. As I'm using the original script this then asks which account but will input it fine.

But if I try to use MT20FX to auto open Money and import the file like shown in post #47, Money opens fine but then nothing happens. No transactions are downloaded into Money.

This one's got me stuck, it seems like it's only Money 2005 that is being opened and not the import manager. Anyone else with 2005 got past this error?

Check which application is configured in Windows to open OFX files (in My Computer - Tools - Folder Options- File Types).

The program should be the MS Money Import Handler, not Money itself. The import handler takes the OFX file and then sets up a flag that tells Money that there is some new data to process the next time it opens.

Note that this applies on my copy of Money 2001, I can only assume that later versions work in the same way.
  • You beat me to it rpb424, I was just about to say the same thing! I can confirm that this is the case for 2005 as well then.

Now just the script to play with (can you tell I'm enjoying myself now!), having a few issues with establishing how Nationwide online write my account number - I notice my online statements for internal transfers show the sort code as well. Just using the basic account number didn't seem to work - off to try some variations!

Did you try my script from the top of this page? I'd be interested to check whether other people can make it work.

Currently in the process of trying it, it's the account number bit I'm struggling with as mentioned in my above post. I've got to get off the pc now but hope to have another go later today. I'll let you know how I go as it's much appreciated what you've done to try and help us with this problem. ;)

  • I'm willing to either move my current account elsewhere (& possibly get a better interest rate as an added bonus) or try the conversion process - but I wondered if anyone could advise how easy it is to limit the statement downloads to either a specific date range - or even better all transactions since your last download? I know this is possible with Natwest online banking (ie all since last download) and they also give you the option to download all accounts in one go, but Alliance & Leicester only seem to allow you the option of all transactions for the current month (which means you have to "accept" all transactions even the ones you'd already downloaded). Any idea how this works with other current accounts eg Halifax, Abbey, Lloyds TSB? And how it works with the MT20FX conversion software?

I too am annoyed and disappointed about the fact that Nationwide have taken this backward step. It seems there are quite a few of us using the program in this way. Whilst Microsoft may have started this by stopping the program, Nationide should have offered the option of ofx etc (i think that Microsoft might have done this due to reduced sales of Money which is hardly suprising seeing that the program seems to have deteriorated over the years - according to the user reviews - and the fact that the updates are time limited. I am using Money 2003 ad have been very happy with it..... it was an upgrade from Money 98 which was obtained from Nationwide I recall).

I, along with many others its seems, feel this was the main reason for staying with Nationwide, it was a fantastic service. The other benefits, except perhaps the fee free credit card for Europe, seems to have disappeared!

However, the help and advice from a few users on here (most notably rpb424) seems to have made this not so much of a problem than I originally anticipated. So thank you very much for giving your help on this forum rpb424, it is much appreciated.

Finally, can this work with IE? Nothing seems to happen when i click the download file since instaling the MT2OFX program. I suspec this is due to file associateions though? I can look into this further later, but any thoughts would be welcome.

Once again thanks everyone and maybe we should all make a point of writing our concerns to Nationwide just so they are awae of how unhappy we all are.

If you want to prevent Money from asking which account to import data into then you can download a modified csv script that I have created.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/300004997/Nationwide-CSV_multi_account.vbs

This supports Flexaccount, e-Savings, ISA and InvestDirect accounts. To make it work you need to do the following....

    1. Download it to the c:\Program Files\MT2OFX folder.
    2. Open it in WordPad (or any other good text editor). You will find 4 lines about half way down the file called 'SAcct = "xxxxxxxx", relating to the account number of the account named in the line above. Replace xxxxxxxx with the right account numbers and save the file. If you don't use some of these accounts then ignore the relevant line.
    3. Make sure that your Money accounts are also set up to have the account number stored.
    4. Go to the MT2OFX Scripts options, press 'New' and select this new script file. Press 'Update' and make sure it is at the top of the list and is ticked. Untick the old 'Nationwide-CSV.vbs' file.

Now when you import into Money it should match up the account number stored in the OFX file to what it knows as the account numbers and automatically import the data without prompting for an account.

Let me know if these instructions work!!
    Titch :)

You should get the option when clicking on the link with IE to either Open or Save the file. The Windows file association to open the (csv) file is probably set to Excel if you have it installed. There is no option in IE to open it in any application other than the Windows associated one as there is in Firefox where you can choose independently of what Windows has set.

Hmm, none of my downloaded csv files for any of my Nationwide accounts (five of them) includes an account number or even a sort code. Transaction lines for internal transfers sometimes show the account number that the money is going to, but this then just becomes part of the description.

I found out about Nationwide dropping Money support when it stopped working. I'm extremely disappointed that Nationwide do not support this as I don't think there is much effort to continue to support the Money format. It appears there is a large number of people who still use Money and the Nationwide service has been running ok for 4 years after Money has been released.

Anyway, I'm going to send Nationwide an email to request support. If enough people do this then they may re-add this feature back on. In the mean time, I'll be using MT2OFX as recommended here. Thanks
