Thanks a lot
new script worked for credit card, but gave me a lot of duplicates within the last month.
I looked at the parameter for matching transactions, but that was set at 60 days, so don't think thats the problem. Isnt matching to do with matching manual transactions to downloads - not quite the same thing?
I though OFX had unique ids to stop duplicates - but the csv file for credit card doesnt have any. Hmm.0 -
I'm stuck with the duplicates problem too, blooming annoying!
Currently I'm having to manually select the date range for the cvs file I download to ensure there won't be any duplicates. More long winded than i'd like so I'm seriously looking around now for a new current account with a bank that supports the ofx format.:j Go on, shake your money maker! :j0 -
I had the duplicates problem too, so I simply deleted the original existing transactions and let the newly downloaded ones take their place. I think you just need to do this once and they will filter off the system and you shouldn't see any duplicates again as time goes by. If you look at the downloaded csv file you will see that there is no unique transaction ID passed into it, so this obviously can't reach the OFX file either. Hence Money has to try and be somehow 'intelligent' as to how it tries to match transactions, but it obviously thinks that the new ones don't match 'enough' to the old ones to be classified as a match.0

Thought I'd test this idea by importing just yesterdays transactions (4 items) and then doing it all again to see if it gave me 4 duplicates. The good news is it doesn't duplicate the transactions so your plan seems to be right. However if I imported the full statement I'd have a lot transactions to delete and re enter so it looks like I've about a month of having to do this the long winded way. I'll have probably moved my account to First Direct by then anyway!:j Go on, shake your money maker! :j0 -
Its going really well actually....
MT2OFX comes supplied with about 100 separate vbs scripts to deal with different banks (UK and foreign), since many of them format the csv data in slightly different ways. You simply select the ones you want use, and MT2OFX will pass the csv file through each 'enabled' one in turn until it finds one that recognises the specific data layout in the csv file and then generates the OFX file from it.
The problem I had with Nationwide is that I have five different accounts with them set up in Money, all capable of receiving downloaded data. However the format of the downloaded csv file format is not totally consistent across all the accounts and the account number is not always consistently passed into Money, resulting in Money asking you which account you would like the data to be imported into rather than it happening automatically.
For a Nationwide Credit Card account there is a specific script supplied which works fine and needed no modification. Flexaccount and InvestDirect accounts generate another subtly different type of file, whilst e-Savings and ISA generate a third one. What I did was to modify the Nationwide Current Account script to look for the name of the account within the csv file and then automatically apply the matching account number into the correct OFX file parameter. Money now automatically routes the incoming data to the correct account with no extra prompting.
Hence my overall import process is currently as follows:
1. In Firefox, log into Online Banking (takes me automatically to Flexaccount 'Full' tab)
2. Click on 'Download text file' link.
3. Firefox asks if I want to save the link or open it. I have this configured to 'Open in MT2OFX'. Unfortunately a bug in Firefox means that it always asks this question even if the 'always do this action' box is ticked (something to do with mime types).
4. MT2OFX then automatically generates the OFX file and is configured to them automatically run the MS Money import handler (which tells the money app that some new data is available). The way I have it configured you never actually see MT2OFX open on screen, it all happens in the background and closes automatically.
5. If Money is not already open then a dialog box pops up saying that data has been processed and do I want to open Money and import it.
6. The data is magically imported.
Hence at the minimum at the moment it is a 2 click operation to get from downloading the csv to Money receiving the data if it is already open. Theoretically it could be one click save for the bug in Firefox.
You need to download individually for each account you are interested in rather than the old system from within Money where it would do them all in one go, but I honestly think that this is about the best I can hope to do, and it really works quite well and isn't anything like as much of a pain as I thought it might become.Ciaerda:T0 -
Make sure the following are set in MT2OFX options....
Show Open Dialog on startup - unticked
Save Output: "Temporary - Deleted after Use"
Post Conversions actions: Output file type "OFX" "Open with program configured in Windows"
"No confirmation before importing" ticked
Default output file type - OFX
Payee Case - As Input
OFX version - 102
Other settings shouldn't really matter.
Hope this helps!0 -

Pleasure :j
Why not now try my updated vbs script at the top of this page if you haven't already? Money doesn't even then ask which account you want to import the data into.0 -

The link is here.
It seems they offer no downloadable statements apart from CSV format which are pretty useless.
I know all my credit card accounts let me download QIF files. Do any other current account providers? I am more than happy to move my account to a bank that does (this was the only reason I keep my current account with the Nationwide since they became so uncompetitive in other areas).
Anyone know if Yorkshire bank has this service or any other bank that does?Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

No other UK bank has ever supported direct download into Money from within the application itself, only Nationwide. Changing software packages isn't really the issue since they now all work in the same way i.e. log into your account on the bank's own website and download a file to the package. Arguably Money will still be the easiest to use since it includes an external import handler which can tell Money itself whether new data is available. The issue is whether you want a bank that supports OFX downloads or whether you are prepared to accept csv from Nationwide and convert it to OFX which Money can read with something like MT2OFX as I have described.0
