With me and OH we had been together for about 6 weeks and i changed our status on facebook to 'engaged' for a joke to see how people would react.
Well we started talking about it and i said i know i wanted to spend my life with him and i would marry him. So we agreed and we looked online for engagement rings. I found the perfect one and he said he would buy it on Friday when he got paid.
That day he met me from work and said he couldn't actually get the ring as they sold out but did i want to go out instead.
I said no i didn't lol.
He eventually told me he had got it, but he wanted to suprise me lol. So we went out but it was freezing, we had a meal and then went for a walk, but still no proposal. So i said i wanted to go home as it was sooo cold.
We got outside our flat and he said "I know you dont want me to do this in the flat, will you marry me"
And i said "*girlish laugh* maybe"!!??:rotfl:
And then said yes
Set the date for June 2010 and now i've lost my engagment ring due to swelling of fingers in pregnancy. I took it off and put it in my pocket and now its gone  Im gutted.
He keeps saying he'll buy me a new one, but i said no as i feel so bad for losing it.
He now says we're not getting married as i voided the contract by losing the ring :rotfl::p Silly OH x0 -
Mine is so romantic not!!!
We were walking through the local shopping centre doing some shopping when he said we need to go in there pointing to a jewellery shop.
I hadn't a clue what he was on about and said what for, his reply was to pick your engagement ring. I walked straight passed and kept walking till reeached outside. (I came over all hot and stuffy) When we got outside he asked "you will marry me won't you"
Of course my reply was yes, once I had cooled down and got over the shock we went back to the jewellers:heart2: 'Tied the Knot' Saturday 9th October 2010 :heart2::blushing: Member of Diet Club October 2010 Brides and Grooms :blushing:Starting Weight: 14 stone 10.8lbsCurrent Weight: 13 stone 2lbsTotal loss: 21.8lbs :j0 -
We were in his car and he put a Bruce Springsteen cassette in the stereo. He said that he wanted me to listen to this song. It was I Wanna Marry You.
He looked and me and said...'well?' :rotfl:
It was a rusty old Datsun Cherry but I said yes anyway.:D

My mum was proposed to before my dad came along. She declined. She said it was because he always wore fisherman's jumpers (she didn't tell him that was the reason though). He went on to make a lot of money and mum jokes about what she could have had lol
When my dad proposed my mum said to him that she had something to tell him. She told him that she didn't have any money. He said that it was okay, neither did he. Mum said she thought he had because he was one of the few in his village who had a car. She (jokingly) said by then it was too late.
I'm glad she picked my dad though, and i'm thankful the other bloke always wore hand-knitted jumpers because otherwide I wouldn't be here.0 -
Really strange one, but me and my to be husband were down hatton garden looking around, with no intention WHATSOEVER of buying a ring, or even getting married for that fact. it had NEVER even been spoken about. but me and the OH like to plan days out and we thought 'ooo lets go down to hatton gardens and look at all the jewerly'
However, i am the WORSE for taking hints, so i thought it would be a normal day haha.
We got down there, looked around and he made no comment whatsoever of getting married.
As we was about to leave (he must of been lookin on websites previous) because he pulled me to one side right outside a shop and said .. 'ah we are here now, go inside'
we walked into this shop called JP Diamonds off of hatton gardens, and they were already waitin inside for me with a selection of rings ready and waiting.. and even knew my name somehow lol ( i thank my husband for his hard work on the fone to them previously trying to describe me haha)
and they said 'Good morning mrs hall, we have been waiting for your arrival'
i found it quite funny...
he got down on one knee inside the shop, and we spent all day looking in this one shop for the perfect ring.
HAHA WHAT A DAY..
So thankyou to my hubby to be, and to JP Diamonds for going along with him!

So you weren't getting an engagement ring then?
So lovely of you to join and tell us all 5 times just how great that jewellers is. :cool:Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Aww, there's some lovely stories on here.
For mine, we wer on holiday in the Lake District in or camper and on the sunday my OH decided to take me to Tarn Howes, we walked down the hill to the path and followed it round for a bit, then OH decided to veer off into the bushes and through a load of trees calling me after him. So there was me complaining because I was wearing shorts and getting scratched by all the bushes. We got to a clearing at the edge of the lake so I sat down on a rock to show my disapproval, he walked over to me, got down on one knee, ring in hand and asked me to marry him (I did have to stop him half way through to tell him he'd got the wrong hand though, bless him!!!) After I said yes he told me off for complaining because you never know what you'll get in the end.... so true!0 -
I love reading all these!!
Does make me realise how lame my own engagment was though:rolleyes:
It was the night before my birthday about 4 years ago and myself and OH decided to open a bottle of wine, which soon turned to serveral (as it does;)).
We were due to go out the next evening with a big group of friends so we decided we would have an early night.
OH had been acting very strange all night and when we went to bed he turned to me and slurred 'guess what, I am going to ask you to marry me tomorrow night!!!'.
And that folks was his proposal!!!!
He had planned it all out and got serveral of my mates involved as well but the wine we had enjoyed had made him a little bit overexcited and he blurted it all out a night to early!!!!:rotfl:
Good job I love him hey!!!!0 -
We got engaged in July this year, after being together 18 months.
I knew it was coming as i had picked my ring, but he kept me waiting for about 3 months after picking the ring.
It was a nice day and we decided to go for a drive, when we started heading to the place where we go fishing( he fishes, i read magazines!).
I thought this was strange as we had no fishing gear with us.
Anywhos, we went out for a walk along the dam of the Loch and out onto the pier that goes out into the loch, when he got down on one knee!
I couldnt see him for crying, i said yes but i wouldnt let him open the box until we were off the pier, because knowing me i wouldve dropped it!
were getting married on 30th July 2010!0 -

We've been married almost 25 years but the old s*d still hasn't got around to proposing ....the nearest he got was totally unromantic: "my mother thinks we should get married". I was waiting for him to add something flattering like "and I'll never find anybody else potty enough to put up with me" but he didn't get around to that, although I live in hopeI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0
