Mine is a bit rubbish to be honest, we went out to a Turkish restraunt with our last twenty quid and we started talking about the future and ...
he said "we aught to do it then"
"what - get married?" I said.
"Suppose" he said.
"Was that a proposal?" I said.
"Why not?" He said.
And that was the end of waiting for my romantic proposal of romantic-ness. I wish we could go back and he could do it properly, but then again I did get to pick my ring of shiny-ness and knowing how skint we were/are after plowing all my money into my business its the thought that counts.
My Mum was like.... "but your so young!" - er... mum you were three years younger than me and I'm not young.
My Dad was like ..."What time is it? I'm on GMT plus 4 hours. Whats happened? Huh?" I forgot he was abroad and working shifts and very confused lol!!! Sorry I woke you Dad.
I have told him he's making up for the crap proposal on the honeymoon and has to be very romantic or else I'll divorce him! Its been a standing joke for the four years we've been dating that "I'm gunna divorce you!" and me introducing him as "my current fiance" just to wind him up, it makes us laugh so much we just shout the letter !D! when we wind each other up and if he keeps going I shout !I! and go through all the letters.... gosh I'm so so sad reading this back... "V"!I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!:j:j:jNegotiate, Negotiate, and Negotiate again.:j:j:j0 -

awww, what a lovely lot of stories to read on a crappy rainy cold Sunday
.
My proposal was very like yours tizhimi ...
my best friend and her then latest squeeze had announced they were going to get married a couple of weeks before I met my DH... he'd done the romantic picnic, got down on one knee etc etc.... A couple of weeks after we got together, they went to Elgin to buy a ring and asked us to go with them for moral support I suppose....
anyway, we got back to her house, and they went next door to show her neighbour the ring they chose. DH looked at me, and said 'well, I suppose if they're getting engaged, we should too?' And that was my proposal :rotfl:. We went back into Elgin the next weekend and got my ring. Funny thing is, a year later, we're married and they've split up.
My best friend and I always laugh that we're never going to fight over a man even though we're the same age, because she likes them young and I prefer them older. DH is 13 years older than me, and her ex is 11 years younger than her!DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

DF's birthday is the 16th Feb so we went away to London for the weekend. He had booked a luxury room at the Hilton overlooking Trafalgar Square. Really plush. I had actually brought the ring myself as I knew he was the one and was planning to propose during his birthday weekend - something unusual even though not a leap year. We had only been together 4 months but from our first meet we both had that spark - we met via an internet dating site. On valentines night we went to a lovely little italian restaurant - really romantic - then went onto a bar or two or three and several drinks later we got back to the hotel and fell asleep. Just didn't seem the right moment during the night. Next day - just before going to breakfast, I was getting ready in the bathroom and DF shouted through that he wanted to ask me something but didn't know how I would respond - when I came out he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes and got the ring out! It was so funny - just as well he hadn't brought me a ring too - I would add he did pay for it straight away! There are only two things a child will share willingly - communicable diseases and their mother's real age0

I can't remember, but I didn't say yes the first time anyway, he asked a few times.
But it was just doing ordinary things, nowhere special.
He didn't buy the ring till I said yes:rolleyes:0 -
Mines a bit of a long Story as i have been engaged twice, both Beautiful proposals.. So the first...
It was Christmas Day, we always went round to my Mums on Chirstmas morning to open our presents. Its 7.30 AM, my mum has 5 children, so you can imagine the presents under the tree filled the entire room.
So we start pulling out the presents and handing them to each other, i was handed a large bag filled with lots of little boxes, confused i see that they are from my partner, so i begin to open the boxes, the first contained 8 kinder eggs.... now my OH at the time was a bit of a joker, so i really did take it as jest. So box i open the box, see the kinder eggs (non are tampered with), i proceed to open the next box, and so on and so forth.. just kinder eggs. 72 in total. So that was it... no other presents, just kinder eggs. i thought he was taking the P*%S so naturally was in a bit of a humpf for the rest of the day. In my strop, opened all of the kinder eggs and proceeded to eat the entire 72 kinder eggs. So midday comes and i am stood in the kitchen, (still a moody mother) with my then OH. He pops out for 10 mins and comes back in with another box *sigh and a CD wrapped up! i was in no mood by this point, he told me the other box had droppped out in the car (how it did not click at this point i do not know) anyway, i opened the box and low and behold, 8 more kinder eggs, but something had caught my eye. Yes, one had been tampered with! i made a beeline for it, opened up the wrapping, teh egg had been re sealed perfectly. i open it up, and inside the little toy container was a huge De Beers Diamond! at this point i was just staring at it waiting for those all important words.... i looked at him wiling the special words to leave his lips... urrr no... in hushed wisper as if i was a bit thick he said it's an engagement ring, i smiled to myself thinking, yes i realise that, now what do you say?? so he repeated himself.. its an engagement ring.... at this pont my mum had stopped fussing in the kitchen turned around saw the ring and ran out of the kitchen screaming... 'she's engaged....' so there you have it we were in engaged.he never did say it properely but it was an amazing moment... But it was not to be and i left him 3 years later...
So enagagement number 2.
My mum lives near the beach, there is a long cliff walk right near her house where i used to go for walks on my own in my teens, i would sit on a large rock that looked out over the beaches all the way to the town, it is beautiful, i always dreant as a girl of this rock being the perfect place to be proposed too. and so i met my new partner, he knew nothing of this rock other than passing it when we have been for walks, and i never mentioned it being 'my place'. it was a few days before christmas, we had just got out of the car at my mums and my OH starts rummaging in his boot of the car for something, he then surfaces with his jacket bulging with something. perplexed i question him and he said extra layers as he was cold... hmmmmm.
he suggests we go for a walk on the cliff, i jumped at the chance as i love it up there. (just to clarify at the time me and my OH lived 300 miles rom my MUM and only really came back home at Christmas). Anyhoo, we start walking on the cliff, we take a breather at the rock, and i hear him rustling in his jacket, he pulled out a bottle of Champagne and two small glasses, he then gets down on one knee and Yes... he Said it, 'will you Marry me', he produced a gorgeous ring and slipped it on. We have been together for 3 years now and getting married in May. Sometimes it's just meant to beSTARTING BALANCE JAN 09 £47,400

Mine was pretty unromantic, we'd been together nearly a year, and I knew he was the one, but panicing incase he didn't feel the same. Being quite young at the time (20) I had mentioned how I didn't want to 'waste' the best years of my life with someone if it wasn't forever... anyway, we'd discussed marriage in a 'some day' sense, and I had got upset one night when he still hadn't asked me knowing how I felt. Anyhow, one Saturday morning we woke up, and he asked if we wanted to go and look at rings, so we did, and that was that, no real proposal as such.
When we got back to my parents they asked where we had been and I threw her the ring brochure with one circled, we then turned a normal BBQ into an engagement celebration, he got drunk and we then drove back home and to his mums to tell her in person, she was delighted (she hated his ex!!).
He said he would propose properly when we had the rings, it was coming up to my 21st birthday and we were going to the Dominican, he got drunk one night beforehand and blurted out how he was thinking of proposing (Beach at sunset on my 21st) so had to think of a new way!!
The jewlers rung the morning we were going to the airport and said rings were in, only they had ordered the wrong ones, I was crushed, no 21st birthday proposal afterall.
He surprised me though by still doing it, we had just swam with the dolphins, the sun was setting, and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, it was perfect.
Picked new rings (discounted for their !!!! up) when we got home and have never looked back. Got married this July just gone after 2 years of being engaged and 3 years of being together and I have never been happier!0 -
tizhimi - thats exactly the sort of proposal im expecting, (if i ever get one-12 years and still NOTHING! lol)
