I'd had a really crappy day at work and had text him to ask him to do something nice for me when I got home (I was thinking more along the lines of have tea ready so I don't have to cook).

I got home, he'd made hot and sour soup (Favourite!) and then he left the ring box on the table for me to open. He didn't even say the full line, just "Will you?". :D

Lovely stories proving that chivalry and romance aren't dead.
How long til pay day?

Getting married in Cuba in Feb 2011 :) cant wait xxxx
  • We went for a picnic a few weeks ago and it was lovely and then he just popped the question. I asked if he was being serious then burst into tears! Oh and then said yes!
He also asked again after he had asked my dad which was lovely.

    Simple but perfect!

We then had a huge web of white lies built up as he hadn't asked my dad as he is always working away. I got my dad to call then pretended to be out so DF could ask him, he said yes, then DF asked him not to say anything, Dad said he wouldn't tell anyone not even my mum. Dad then called mum and told her! Mum never said anything and neither did i as we wanted to do it face to face. Which i eventually did but dad wasn't home for another 2 weeks so we never told him! Told him last week and DF parents this week as they had been on holiday for 3 weeks! Argh! It's all out in the open now!

We've only told people this weekend, 1 month after we got engaged! Yay I can finally wear my ring and join the board! Woo Hoo! Also took 3 trips to the Birmingham jewelry quarter to find the perfect ring! So I'm glad i can now wear it!

Mine was on holiday in Cuba- we were walking to a restaurant next to the beach but instead of going into the restaurant, my oh said "lets go on the beach first" so we did, only to find a candlelit table on the beach, with rose petals scattered in a heart shape!! There was also a waiter serving us with champagne and a violinist!!
My oh then got down on one knee and proposed- I couldnt believe that he had organised all that- usually he is rubbish at keeping surprises!!
    It was just beautiful :0)

  • Oh I like this thread its lovely

well mine was lovely...not all planned and fancy or anything...but very us lol

i was in the kitchen cooking dinner, when my oh came home from work, he told me he had something to show me, so i went over to him and he produced this ring (i didnt say anything lol) then he said will you be my wife...and i said yes though a lot of tears lol
the rign was perfect, exactly what i wanted (see they do listen)

we then ate the dinner i had made and drove over to my parents to tell them

it was so us, and i wouldnt change it for anything

apparently he had all sorts of plans for different ways to do it (like going to a fancy restaurant etc) but he knew I would know something was going on if hed ararnged something like that, so decided to go with the completely out the blue just at home option instead lol

Mine was on a family holiday to cornwall (Looe bay) we had a separate caravan from the rest of my family. planned a picnic on Porthcurno beach (beautiful beach! google it! lol)

he kept trying to get opportunitys but missed them, i managed to get burnt in the sun so wanted to go home. he quickly told me give it 15 more mins. then he built a sandcastle, sprinkled heart metallic confetti on top the placed the ring box on top :)

he even brought 100 little zip up bags so he had one in his pocket so i could take home part of the sandcastle with me......awwwww!!!

then he had champagne back at the caravan waiting and that night over the club house my parents had us up on stage for photos (that bit was mega embarassing!)

Perfect setting, perfect ring in the right size, perfect fiance! :)

  • After reading all these and getting a little emotional, I thought I'd pop mine on. After 9 years together we'd agreed to get married, set the date and told people, but I told him I did want a proposal at some point, but I'm not fussed about a ring as we've got a wedding to pay for and want to start a family, so I said he could get me a ring on our 10 year wedding anniversary.

Anyway, he'd just finished a loooong stint at Uni and we had a week's holiday before he started his new job. We'd booked into a spa and he'd booked a session in the 'mud room' as it was just us two in there. We got there and covered ourselves in various colours of mud and then the steam started coming into the room. Meanwhile OH was desperately trying to get me to turn around and then I started grumbling about him forcing me to do things I don't want to (I realise that sentence sounds a bit fruity, but it wasn't! :-)) Anyway, eventually I turned around and counted to ten and when I turned back he was down on one knee with holding out the first ring he'd ever bought me and popped the question!

Apparently he wanted to write 'Will You Marry Me?' on his chest in the mud, but it just didn't work out like that, but it was lovely, unexpected and memorable and I wouldn't have had it any other way - well apart from me chunnering at him. The strange thing is that I've had that ring for 9 years and for the past 6 it hasn't fitted me. I've lost a tiny bit of weight and the ring fits me - despite me being this weight before and it not doing - strange...
  • I thought I'd added to this before now, but obviously not!

Leading up to February last year, OH kept asking me if I was going to propose to him. I knew he was skint and didn't want to propose and force him into buying me a ring. On 29th February, he snt me a text saying "When are you proposing? x". I still didn't do it. I was tempted, but didn't.

In July, I was my best friend's bridesmaid. At her hen do a few weeks beforehand, she suddenly said "I know when James is going to propose to you". Oops. I kept quiet and didn't tell him that she'd ruined the surprise.

Two days after my friend's wedding, we flew to Italy. James was pretty worked up about keeping his hand luggage locked and got me to go through security first. We landed in Naples and eventually found the hotel we were staying in (2 minute walk from the Bay). As I was unpacking, I came out of the bathroom to find James down on one knee with a box in his hand. Obviously I said yes! :T

It turns out that he'd bought the ring in February :o. He asked my dad's blessing in April and also asked for advice on when would be best for him to propose; my birthday or on holiday. Dad's response apparently was "If you propose on her birthday and she says no, you've ruined her birthday and you'll be dreading the holiday. If you propose on holiday it'll make the trip really special". I note that dad didn't suggest what might happen if I said no!

I asked him after cooking a 4 course meal for 10 of his old uni friends.
We were in the bedroom after everyone went home and he said he was really proud of me and I asked him if I could get a treat then? He asked what I wanted and I said to "be engaged to you". The weddings not for a few years but can't wait!
