OH took me out on birthday last year 31st Aug....didn't tell me where we were going until we turned up at a car dealership. I asked him what we were doing there and he said "I've decided it's time I treated you for being there for me"....3 hours later, new car ordered...choosing the colour was the difficult bit lol
Anywhoo...we were having a little get together at home later that day so we picked up a cake and went home. I was a little tired so lay down on the sofa to watch some tv and chill out for a bit....
I thought OH had gone making a start on the food, but he came in and gave me my birthday card. Inside simply written was "I love you so much....will you marry me?"...just as the cat came wandering in, jumped on my stomach with the ring attached to his collar!
I cried so much!
And...we tied the knot on Aug 14th this year....brilliant day...wish I could do it all again!;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0 -

I proposed to my wife on a surprise trip to the Lake District - booked a hotel, ordered a special picnic from the local deli and asked their advice for a suitable place to take it, bought the ring, and a personalised ring box with the date and a message engraved inside, and a picnic blanket and flask. Then when she woke up on the Sat morning, I said 'have a shower and pack a bag', and off we went. We went up to the Stockghyll waterfall in AmblesideConsidering I'm not renowned for my romantic gestures, I was pretty pleased with myself. Not very 'moneysavingexperty' I know!
She said yes obviously (we'd already been together for nearly 9 years since age 16) and we got married 5 months later! Now been married for 2 and a half years, and have a one year old son.0 -
I was lucky I got two propsals! (same guy!) The first was when I moved from Perth to Dundee and it was "I suppose now that you have moved we'd better get engaged!" The second was about 18 months ago, we were having a night in and while sitting on the sofa all cuddled up, he proposed again. This time I turned him down flat, but after I had told myself off during the night I asked if I could change my mind!0

Awww, what a lovely thread. Romance is still alive, there are some really lovely stories here!! Thanks everyone for sharing ...
I met up with my boyfriend in Barbados after he had been sailing across the Atlantic for charity. I had not seen him for 2 weeks. He organised a meal with a table looking out across the sea, with the all the crew members (and their wives and families) and half way through he got up to make a speech (I thought he was going to thank the skipper) and asked me to marry him infront of everyone. He had it all planned for months, I was so shocked at the proposal (he had always said he would never marry), I just sat there open mouthed. There was a big silence until I could say YES! His other idea had been to ask me as we jumped out of a plane but he never actually persuaded me to jump LOL - he is a big skydiver and loves anything adventurous!! I am glad this opportunity came along first, dont think he would ever have got an answer if he had actually persuaded me to skydive!!!
His proposal was like a dream for me and I could not have wanted for anything more (such an idyllic proposal, shame about what has happened next:rolleyes:!!)

We went to blackpool for a weekend of beer and football with a couple mates. Decided to go up the tower as none of us had done this.
Went to the very top where it was blowing a gale and was FREEZING. OH was taking photos and soon enough the others !!!!!!ed off as it was cold. I went to follow but he told me to wait. I assumed he was after a sneaky kiss and grope (lol).
But he got down on one kneeFunny bit was I had been hinting at this for SOOOOO long I never thought it would happen. So just stood open mouthed in shock. Then asked if he was kidding, lol. After a few minutes he told me his knee was cold and could I please answer! Hehe
We then went downstairs and all my mates were amazed as they didnt know! Went to the pub, told a few more mates and they presented us with champagne! So chuffed
Even better we then went to the football and won! Woohoo.
Annoyingly we decided to go for a group meal that night to celebrate and OH and his mate got food poisoning (from a dodgy fry up we think) and had to go home half way through the meal! Que us celebrating out engagement with me stroking his head while he chucked up, lol.Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
What a lovely idea for a thread!! Some fab stories!!
I thought i would share mine, not least as sometimes i think i have dreamt it!! My OH is not really a romantic at all, flowers once a yr on valentines day if he remembers but this blew me away ...
We've been together 7 years and on our first christmas we went out for a meal with his family and in the cracker we pulled that i won was a little red plastic engagement ring. I knew he was the one and said i'm going to keep this in my jewellery box until you want to ask me to marry you (I guess i'm lucky he didn''t run a mile lol). All the time we have been together he has said he never wanted to get married. Anyway last November we went to Australia and before we went i dropped a few hints about the ring in the jewellery box and just before we left, he was in the car, to go to the airport, i went and had a look and it was still there!! I've never been so disappointed in my whole life as holiday of a lifetime and all that i knew it was kinda now or never.
Totally gutted i knew i had to forget it and enjoy the holiday so i did but the night we walked around the Sydney Opera House (The most beautiful building in the world, and the place i was most excited about seeing in Oz)at midnight i couldn't think of anything else. I was so upset that i said to him 'can we just go now please?' At this point he said 'Not until i've asked you to marry me' as he got down on one knee OMG!! And then he pulled out the red plastic engagement ring!! The first thing i said in total shock was 'but i looked as we left and it was still there'!! He said i know you baby and i knew you would looking!! I hadn't realised being so upset when i got in the car but he, looking back did pop back in to make sure he had turned the heating off!! Then i said yes of course!! And burst into tears!! Then i said have you asked my dad? And he had which made it even more special!! When we got home i got to swap my plastic ring for my dream ring i had picked out many years ago when i worked in a jewellers, i've kept the plastic one of course, safely back in my jewellery box.
I've got goosebumps writing this - i still can't quite believe it!! We're getting married in May and i can't wait to be 'Mrs'!!
Good luck to all those getting married and thanks again for sharing your stories xxx0 -
I must be the only person who got engaged via the means of a paper shredder!
We knew we were going to get married and had talked about rings and he knew what I wanted. I knew he had done lots of work on the ring so it was a matter of time.
The friday before we got the keys for our house he brought back the paper shredder he had borrowed to shred lots of old paperwork and when I answered the door he handed me the shredder so I just put it down. He said look inside and there was the ring box (black against a black shredder basket!) And there was my lovely little ruby ring that had been handmade for me.
We put the ring on and then said suppose we should tell my mum (she was in the other room)0
