I got engaged on saturday!!!! eek, i'm so excited. Been with my OH for nearly 5 years and didn't think he would ask any time soon but it had been getting to me. He suggested a walk up a well known hill near as and asked at the top. He said he wanted to do it somewhere that we could remember as our special place and return to. He had quite craftily(sp?) kept a rubbish plastic ring that i tried on when clearing out some stuff years ago and jokingly put on and commented on how it fited perfectly so he knew my size as even I didn't know that! we are planning for summer next year but i think i may need to get my skates on with organising somewhere.0

I got engaged a couple of weeks ago and it was really special
Bit of history first tho as its important
My DF had been my best friend for 5 years when I saw him in a completely different light on my birthday this year. I knew that he had always had a thing for me but I had never looked at him that way. Just before we got together I think he started to guess that I had feelings for him. Our album has been Elbow’s Seldom Seen Kid and two nights before we got together we both text each other the same lyric ‘We kissed like we invented it’ His reply was ‘What does that tell you?’ Two days later we were together
The proposal…..
We were at the Bestival festival on the Isle of Wight. It was the last night of the festival and Elbow were playing the headlining set. When they played ‘our’ song (One day like this) he turned me round, looked me in the eye and said ‘Marry me’ I said ‘What?’ He repeated himself and said ‘Marry me’ I said ‘Yes’ and as soon as I did there were fireworks and glitter confetti going off all around us as apparently that’s what Elbow do at the end of their set. It was spectacular timing and one of our friends got a picture of us kissing with the fireworks and confetti but had no idea I’d just been proposed to.
I think you can guess what our first dance will be……….
We've set the date as Fireworks Night 2011 as we thought that was appropriate - we're also having our engagement party on Halloween this year as we also thought that was appropriate lol

After reading all your lovely stories I thought I would share mine.
After 2 years of 400 mile round trips I moved in with my DF, leaving my home, friends, job etc. I kept dropping hints about wanting him to show some commitment to me after all I had given up, but he has been married before and kept saying "Once bitten...."
Anyways, he really loves his food and every Christmas he would ask if I could make some deep filled mince pies like the ones you can get from the shops. Every year I tried new recipes with reasonable success. Then last year I got a pastry recipe from the Old Style board and made my mince pies in a muffin tin. DF took one to work in his packed lunch and when I got home he was waiting on one knee with a rear wheel oil seal from one of our scooters (we are both mad Vespa enthusiasts). He said that anyone who could make mince pies like that was worth hanging on to. I had to laugh, but also had the sense to hold out for diamonds which I was given this Valentines Day
Getting married next April, in Italy - and travelling there on 2 vintage Vespas - sooooo excited!!! :j0 -
love this thread! Minky - I love that album too! Gotta get at least one song from it into our wedding day (tho maybe not Grounds for Divorce'!)
My bf asked me on my birthday, a month ago, the day we went on hols. He made me a delicious breakfast - muffins and scrambled egg and gave me a bday pressie - a CD I like and some money to buy myself a handbag! I wasn't expecting anything else, but then I was sitting on the sofa and he handed me our last minute list of things to pack and things to do, and he had written on it 'Get Engaged'. I didn't take him seriously til he sat down on the sofa next to me an produced the most gorgeous ring! Then two hours later we flew off on holiday having told only our parents.
Hoping to marry in Jan 2010fran-o0 -
awww Seabee thats lovely - way to a mans heart eh??"I know that Prince Charming doesn’t come save me, we save each other and fight back to back against all comers that’s what marriage is to me. Nothing passive, no being carried off on a white steed, give me my own damn horse and lets ride into the sunset side by side." - Laurell K. Hamilton.0

during the heavy snow week we had in Feb this year I got trapped at my mums house and oh was at home. Unkown to me he used this time to do the ring shopping. We finally managed to meet back up and was told that we're going out in the evening. I was so excited because he never surprises me and I was looking forward to having a really nice night.
On the way out he was so nervous he was driving like a maniac! He kept making wrong turns and stalling the car, I noticed that he was cheking his watch all the time. We inally arrived at Canary Wharf Ice rink and it was beautiful. It was in the middle of the square and the lights were beautiful. It was quite funny though as I cannot ice skate and was clinging on to the side for dear life! From there we went to dinner at a restaurant that I was dying to try called Cocoon just off Regent Street. The view was lovely as they sat us on a lovely table looking down on to Regent Street.
We got chatting about our relationship and I told him that one day I would love to marry him. Then he got out of his seat and got down on one knee, all this time I did not realise what was going on and I kept saying 'what are you doing? get up, it dirty on the floor!':rotfl: Then he said how much he loved me and that he would love to spend the rest of his life with me and asked me to marry him. I was sooo happy and I was shaking when he put the ring on, I said yes so quickly. Everyone was clapping and the staff bought us champagne:beer: It was really beautiful and the best night of my life:D0 -
I got a Hot air balloon trip for my birthday back in August, but it keeps getting cancelled cos of bad weather anyway we finally go to go last night. It was amazing!!
We flew south over lots of landmarks we recognised including Woburn safari park (have got great piccie of the 'toy' giraffes below us, LOL).
Then we stopped of at Loch Fyne in Woburn for a meal (OH insisted .... which i thought was a bit odd, considering I don't like fish!) anyway turns out they have yummy non-fishy dishes on the menu :-)
I was a bit suspicious went we first went into restaurant cos OH asked the waiter for a "quiet table" - which we did get ....... but then the restaurant got really busy (so he chickened out).
We were both stuffed after that so abandoned pudding and went home. Even though it was only half 8, I was really tired, so nipped to the loo, got changed into my dressing gown with the intention of looking at some of pictures and hopefully not dropping off to sleep too early on sofa. LOL
Well, went back downstairs where OH got down on one knee, whipped a grougeous ring and proposed!!!!!!
I was taken completely by surprise and mumbled something along the lines of "err, are you sure?". Apparently thats not appropriate answer to a question like that, LOL. I said yes of course :-)=====================================
