  • When me and my partner started talking about a civil partnership, I was a little reluctant due to a previous relationship and a bit of 'if it's not broke, don't fix it!' However over time my views changed & I wanted to make the commitment to her and have the security of legaly being each others next of kin etc. But she always said that I was the one that would have to ask as then she would know that it was truely what I wanted. So around Christmas 2007 I decided to plan it and ask her on the 29th Feb, started looking at rings, getting her to show me what she liked etc, so she knew it would be during that year but I'd said it would be after Easter as I couldn't afford it! Then her best friend decided to come over from Ireland on the 29th to stay with us! Anyway I decided that it would be the perfect cover and suggested we book a table at one of our fav resteraunts for six of us, I sent her to the shop and told her best friendwhat I had planned, one of our other friends was in on it too as I pretended to be lending her a scarf as an excuse to take a bag. Because I had ordered a box of Thorntons letter chocolates which spelt out "will you marry me?" we sat down looking at the menu and her best friend asked what she was having for starter, when she said, I said no I don't think you want that, you want chocolate and handed her the box! She was so shocked she burst into tears and didn't even notice the ring was in the box too! She cried through most of the meal, the champagne and the phone call to her mum! The chocs are still here and out of date! She refused to eat them!

While he was looking at watches in a jewellers (because we can't pass a jewellers without the routine lol), to relieve the boredom I began looking at rings. (as you do!) He suddenly took me by the hand and led me inside where he went down on one knee and said. "I love you. Let's set a date!"

The shop brought out champagne (and orange juice for my daughter) and thought he was so romantic. I wanted him to chose the ring for me so went for an 18ct gold with solitaire diamond. he was still on one knee while I tired it on.
    He's a lush my hubby.

Beautiful garden restaurant (http://www.parrucchiano.com/home.php) in Sorrento in June. One knee and a dessert with a firework in it! I cried my way through it, lol.
    C xx

that is my fave restaurant in Sorrento!!!!!

if only my proposal was as romantic,

we went for dinner with some of my friends, to an indian restaurant, and after we rolle back home, sat on the sofa and undid the top buttons on our trs (we really did eat toooooooo much) he said "suppose we should get married then" i said "alright then"

i then promptly forgot about it til i was heading home for lunch the next day, and had to ask him if he remembered, he did, and if he meant it, he did!!!!!

  • At least mine wasn't the only unromantic proposal...

My hubby had planned to propose at Disney World (we had the holiday booked already) so he tells me :) Instead he 'couldn't wait that long', so he got permission from my Dad which I thought was sweet.

Then he proposed on Christmas Day in the car after dropping my Grandad home (it was the only time we were alone and he knew I didn't want an audience).

So then we had to go back and tell my parents who we were spending Christmas with that we were engaged!

We decided there and then to get married the Saturday before the trip to Disney and to use Disney for our honeymoon :)

We were on a climbing holiday in Italy and then we went to Venice for the last few days. He insisted on setting the alarm early on the last morning (which I wasn't impressed by!) and he just rolled over in bed and asked me! I was pretty glad then that we didn't actually have to get up that early

Then when we got home he got down on one knee and asked, with a Haribo sweetie ring, apparently he'd carried Haribo sweets up and down lots of mountains, but each summit wasn't quite right.

We went ring shopping together and found a beautiful ring, but it wouldn't come in for about four weeks. I was going away to my friend's wedding in the States about 10 days later, so we went out for dinner the night before, and then he got down on one knee again in City Square in Leeds with my ring! The shop had done a rush job because he'd told them I wanted it before I went away.

So really I got asked three times, and obviously said YES every time!

    He's a star and I'm very lucky!

Oh and our friend, who's a sculptor, is setting my Haribo ring in resin so I can keep it forever :D
  • We were on a little holiday & on Lindesfarne for a few hours. As we had a big itinerary for the day (we didn't have a lot of time and I'm quite anal about fitting lots in on our hols:rotfl:) I was on a bit of a mission to see the island.

He kept stopping & holding me with a bit of a funny look in his eyes, and I just kept saying "what are you stopping for?" & "come on!" After a while, I did twig that something might be going on. He got to the point where he just dropped his bags and asked me:T I said "are you sure?" cos I go on about it quite a lot:eek: and didn't want him to be pressured into it, but he said he was so my final answer was "okay then":rotfl: He still hasn't quite forgiven me for the "okay"!
  • Well the story starts about 2 weeks before xmas. I found a receipt on the stairs from jeweller, but it was stapled shut. It had an insurance document attached so knew it was expensive.... I did think but forgot about it.

Xmas eve last year, we opened our pressies at midnight, as I was up at 5.30am on xmas morning for work. I opened the pressie from OH which was a small ring sized box and it was earings (which were lovely).

Couple of mins later OH gives me a card (which I was puzzled about as he'd already given me one), opened it and it said "to my fiance at xmas", I looked at him he was down on one knee with a ring....

I found out after he realised I'd seen the receipt so he had to go back to jewellers to cover up! We'd been for a meal to my parents that evening too, and I found out later that he'd asked my dad for his permission.....:o

I love reading these stories!! Sadly no proposal from OH (and neither do I think there ever will be) but my ex-fiance's proposal to me was lovely.

He got down on one knee in the rain outside our local pub (which was lovely - it was on the top of a hill and behind us was the lights of all across South Liverpool illuminating him) It was lovely but I told him to get up and stop being such an idiot after I'd accepted! We chose the ring together though.

  • Well mine is like the so most unromantic proposal in the world ! But then my husband is such a big bear really romantic wouldn't suit him I think !

Well it started from good intentions... he was going to propose on Valentine's Day, when we were at the restaurant.
But he couldn't wait, so the Sunday before, while I was in the middle of hoovering the lounge in my tracksuit bottom and t=shirt, he called me into the bedroom (his daughter were in the lounge). I asked him what he wanted and he just showed me the ring ! I said yes, we kissed, and I went back to my hoovering !
