  • Had tears in my eyes reading some of these proposal stories.

Well - DH and I been best friends for ages, I was on the back of his motorbike one evening and I was cuddled up behind him and realised that I was falling in love. Oh the number of pub quizzes I went to just to see each him! We got together a few months later, and then about four months after that we found out I was expecting!

He didn't actually propose straight away, we just debated when to get married, before or after baby, then for valentines weekend he took me to Brighton and chose a beautiful ring which he had to collect later after it had been resized.

I was tucking into a huge cheese and ham sandwich at home (I was pregnant remember, so was I constantly eating) he burst into the flat, ran over and went down on one knee still in his bike leathers, and proposed with the ring.

We're celebrating our 3rd anniversary this April, and had a beautiful wedding day - never seen so many happy faces in one place. Everything was very MSE apart from the rings...

August will be lovely, 15mins before the car came to pick me up it started raining, it stopped as we were going in and we had gloorious sunshine for the photos then when we sat down for the meal it poured. We had the sun just when we needed it.

That's the main thing. There is a beautiful tree in the grounds where we are getting married, and if needs be I will get some wellies so I can get over the grass without ruining my shoes! That will please my mother no end :rotfl:

My proposal wasnt very romantic, but still the best day of my life!
I had been to see Take That with 2 of my friends the day before so were in Glasgow for the weekend. H2B kept phoning to see what time I was coming home and I was getting really annoyed at him, so gave him a row for phoning every 5 mins and kind of fell out with him a bit!
When I finally came home (about 4 hrs later than intended!!), I came straight into the house, gave him a kiss and starting moaning about how tired I was, and my sore legs, and how I needed to listen to the phone as I had phoned my answer machine when TT had done my fav songs, so I could hear them again, and on and on I went !

Anyway......after about 10 mins of me ranting H2B told me stand in the middle of the living room, asked me if it had been the 'greatest weekend' (a wee ref to TT there bless him!) and when I said yes, asked if it could made any greater? I was being a bit slow, and made some remark about Mark Owen being hidden upstairs, and H2B just looked at me (in a wee bit of disgust if I am honest!!!!:rotfl:) and then opened a ring box and blurted out "will you marry me?". I laughed at him first (I was ina bit of shock !!), then cried, and finally said yes!

Bless him, he had phoned my Dad the day before and asked his and my mums permission, and had got champagne and chocs, and had great plans of taking me up the hill beside the house, with the champers and chocs, and proposing there - but after I had moaned so much he knew I wouldnt go, so I ruined his grand plans!

He had chosen the ring himself and got the right size (it was/is perfect!) and had got himself into such a panic about it! He also said he wanted to ask my Dad in person, but they were going on holiday a couple of days later, and it would have been 3 weeks before he saw Dad again, and once he had bought the ring he couldn't wait to ask! :T
It was definately the greatest day of my life so far! Now we are in the wedding planning stages, but wont be able to set a day until the end of the year as he is in the forces and needs to find out about his next posting before we can set a final date (its so frustrating......but I need to get used to it I suppose, the joy of being a forces wife to be!!). However it hasnt stopped the planning and we have the venue, colours, invites etc all decided and we will be doing as much as possible to prepare so its not as stressful when we can make the date. We are hoping for spring next year! :j

On Christmas Eve this year when I opened my advent calendar there was a ring inside rather than a chocolate as expected. :D

OH had gotten up early 'to enjoy christmas eve' and had reminded me to open my calender before I went to work. He said he was really nervous while I was getting ready and doing my makeup and stuff :rotfl: After I'd opened the window and seen the ring I was just speechless and he took it off me, went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course i said yes! When he stood up he was shaking.

I really didn't want to go to work after that... but I did and it was a very exciting morningat work and couldn't wait to get home :D

Admittedly, my first thought when i was tearing the foil on that window and I could see there was no chocolate was 'how come I've got a duff advent calender?!' :rotfl:
  • Loving reading your stories – they’re fab!! So lovely :D

We got engaged in July last yr. We were on holiday with big group of friends in the south of france celebrating a friends bday staying in a fantastic gite… he arranged for me to meet him in the square of a little French town called Limoux. I arrived there & he was with friends initially – they made some really quick excuse and scarpered asap… so I was actually wondering what was going on! Noticed then that he was waiting in one of the lovely cafes in the picturesque little square - with pink champagne.. as I sat down he got down on one knee (for about a nanosecond as he v self conscious!). He cried soo much I was getting worried & made my friends boyfriend cry too apparently when he’d called my dad to ask him first. We then went to one of the jewellers where he showed me a ring he’d chosen but was too scared to buy incase I didn’t like it – I loved it & it fitted perfectly! We went back to the gite with more champagne & drank beacoup de vino with all our fab friends!!

Even better was that my sister & family live an hr away from where we were & we had left my dad and son there the wk before – so when we returned to them we partied all over again! It was a magical holiday!

Wedding is 21st Aug this yr!

    Love this thread!
I got engaged in Paris over Christmas. H2B had plans of propsing at the Sacre Couer at night but there were too many people around. We went up to have a look and took some pictures, then headed down to a restaurant where we had a lovely meal. Then we got a taxi into the city centre and walked over a bridge to the right bank. On the bridge I suggested we sit down and admire the view of the Eiffel Tower. As we sat down, the light show started and I said sarcastically 'it's almost like you've planned it' as though I was expecting him to propose...I really really wasn't! Then I went on to point out that if he ever did propose he wouldn't be able to find a more perfect moment. To which he said, Well with that in mind, will you marry me? And pulled out a ring box!! I was stunned, tears started flowing instantly and I said 'Oh my God....Oh my God...YES!' It was a truly perfect moment. The ring was beautiful too, a little too big for me but gorgeous.
Now we're hoping to get married April/May 2011. Sooooo excited!

Did it at the weekend :j

It was my other half's birthday on Saturday and I'd said that I was taking her away on Friday so that she could wake up and open her presents somewhere different to home...when we got off the train a short 30 minute hop from home (at Birmingham New Street station) you could say she wasn't too impressed :p . However, she was more pleased when we arrived on the 19th floor of the historic Rotunda building ;). She had great plans for what we were to do on the Saturday, stuff like CSi Exhibition, Sea Life etc etc.

Come Saturday morning she opened her cards and presents and in my card (along with some Russell Howard tickets) was a 'voucher' enabling her to watch 'My First Video'. Now I should add that she likes making videos herself, one's got over 300,000 views on YouTube! (search YouTube for 'Supernatural in the Park').

As the title suggests this was an attempt at my first! It was basically a collection of photos of us matched with the lyrics to the Taylor Swift song Love Story. Towards the end of the video I 're-looped' the lyrics 'He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring, and said marry me...'. The video then went into the Take That video of Greatest Day, which is a song she loves and is set amongst skyscrapers, like where we were :)

She now knew of the real plans for the day and we headed up to the Jewellery Quarter and she picked her perfect ring :T

We'd been talking about it for ages.

He originally sent me a text one night after I had finished work at a night club after we'd been together for about 3 months saying we could buy a ring the following day and make it official. He then had to fork out for his car, then something else, then something (holiday, house etc) lol, so we never bought the ring or told anyone (though I'd told my best mate he'd asked me and told her to keep it secret!).

SIX and a half years later (i.e. one month ago!) we were in the Arndale Centre when he walked me into H samuel and said "I thinks it's time we got a ring" lol! I told him they were too expensive so I took him to Warren James, they didn't have my size left so the following day when at home in Blackpool we got one in my size. We bumped into his mum a few mins later and told her!

Everyone has told us "it's about time" :rotfl:

I couldn't have asked for it any other way :D

Awww I love reading this thread :-)

Mine was on Valentines day this year.

My OH said he had planned a day out for us. At xmas we got a pug puppy and named him Keith so he planned to take us out to the seaside for the day, for Keiths first seaside visit. This was to be my present. I was a little dissapointed that he didnt get me a present but the thought of a nice day out made me forget!

So off we went on Valentines day to Weston Super Mare - we went here for the day on one of our first dates. We got there had some fish and chips on the beach and just walked along the sea. It was a lovely day, blue skys, just perfect. My OH suggested we practice recall with Keith - where we let him off the lead and call him to each of us, just to get him used to being off the lead. So we were doing that quite successfully, we were getting further apart. Then OH turned round and walked the dog a bit further away and when I called him he came running over, he had the ring on his collar. OH followed him and got down on one knee on the beach and asked me to marry him! I was soooo shocked!

He had gone to my dads the week before to ask his permission and had hidden the ring in our spare room for weeks before! Apparently it took him the two lengths of the beach we did to pluck up the courage to ask me as it was a lot busier at the beach than he thought it would be! x

  • Well I'm a newbie and this is my first post, having finally registered because I'm really loooking for money saving ideas on the wedding!

Anyway, setting the scene I'm 24 and I've been with my other half since I was 14 so childhood sweethearts and we moved into together back in 2008 but I didn't think there was a chance of engagement anytime soon due to finances. But March 2009 we went to New York and he popped the question at the top of the Empire State Building and yes he got down on one knee bless him! The wedding is 4th September this year and as the costs are mounting up I'm sure this will be the first post of many.

It's so nice reading about all your engagements I just had to post mine and join in. Good luck to all those who have weddings this year. :)
