    Thanks to the OP.

Limited to the first 300,000 to apply.

Please get proper advice before changing. In view of this post by Dollop it would appear that none of us are guaranteed receiving the rebate even if registered. It depends on their selection process.

Last year they told me that the details would be sent in one of my bills, but, as other people found too, they did not arrive. Hence I am wary. . . . but hopeful!

I have posted this on the Benefits board, but thought perhaps it would be relevant here too. I am sorry if I have got this wrong.

It seems that British Gas is giving winter fuel rebates for their gas and electricity customers.

You need to register now for winter 2006/7.

As before it seems difficult to get full details, and even a search on British Gas website yields nothing. This should be well publicised

The following was taken from the FHG e-bay forum. Many thanks to jamaicanov6. :T

"British Gas is offering a Winter Rebate scheme to their customers who receive
benefits including Disability Living Allowance, Carers Allowance, Child Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits, Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disability Allowance, Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Income Based JSA, Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance, War Disablement Allowance/Pension.

Households buying gas and/or electricity from British Gas, where SOMEONE IN THE HOUSE receives these particular benefits, are eligible for the following rebates:

Gas £60 a year paid in 2 instalments - £30 in the last quarters bill in 2006 and £30 in the first quarters bill in 2007.

Electricity £30 a year paid in 2 instalments - £15 in the last quarters bill in 2006 and £15 in the first quarters bill of 2007.

Families need to phone 0845 601 2006 and have their British Gas and/or British Gas Electricity account number available. Registration is simple and effective for Autumn 2006.

THERE IS A SHORT REGISTRATION PERIOD SO YOU NEED TO REGISTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE"

Even if you registered for last winter you will have to register again.

Martin would be able to advise further, but perhaps it would be worthwhile for people in receipt of these benefits and not with British Gas to switch as this may then be the cheaper option for them?

 I signed up for the rebate at the beginning of the year and was told that I would be eligable for 2006/2007 and that I need not apply again.

I got 05/06 rebate and when I rang up was told I did not need to re-apply for 06/07 rebate that I would automatically get it.

Thanks to the OP for this heads up. Thanks button missing from first post so I've thanked your latest post.

They let me register again although I had received the rebate for last year, but wouldn't let me register for my 80 year old M-I-L, even though they let me in December!!!
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

I left British Gas at the begining of the year for London Energy after having followed the advice on this w/site. When I got my last bill through, I found that they'd put the prices up without letting me know!! (isn't that illegal?!)

Anyway I rang British Gas and asked if they had any special offers for customers returning to them. They quoted me prices that are a third cheaper than London Energy and told me that they would freeze them until 2010 but that I won't be tied in to a contract. When I asked about this offer they said it was only available to over 65's. After I asked them to double check they said I was right and that I am eligible for my rebate too!!!

    Thank you - you r a star!!

Dalkirst posted this link (thanks again!) on the Benefits board.

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=127192

It refers to this offer for the previous winter, and judging by the posts there it seems to be about late February they began to register for the following winter.

However, some people are being told that they do not need to register this year if they registered last year, while others are told they do need to re-register!
