I got both my gas and electricity statements in today, the gas had £30 credited to it and the electricity had £15 credited to it. I applied for this last winter and reapplied in the summer for this winter,I should receive the same credits on my next bill, giving a total of £60 for gas and £30 for electric.0

Hi,
Moved house before christmas and expected I would loose out, but spoke to a very nice man who confirmed that my rebate has been transferred and I will be receiving the full rebate deducted from my next gas and electric bills.

Why should people on benefits pay less for their gas, than the people who have become a success in life?
Whats the point in getting yourself a good job/working hard, when other people get it cheap just because of their circumstances.
Utter Madness.
No doubt I'll get shot down now from the "benefitors" this scheme. :rolleyes:The Name's Bond James Bond0 -

^ because some people go without heating in the winter because they cant afford it i know i did and i have a baby to look after. not everyione one on benefits is scrounging. Most people are working thier way out of the system. The way you put it, you may as well not give the pensioners thier winter rebate either as they CAN afford the heating.....My nan recives a rebate but she could afford the heating where as i missed out on the rebate and couldnt afford heating.... i wont be on benefits much longer thankgod but it isnt a nice way to live especially when its damp and cold!!Bad mother to 2!

I have just rang the number and they are still doing the rebate. The lady took my details and says I will get a letter in April if I am successful, with £60 for gas and £30 for Electric. If this comes off it will be fantastic - so thanks so much to you all :j0

the wording in a letter from British Gas is as follows :~
'As a customer on the winter rebate scheme you will soon be receiving a rebate for this past winter.
I am writing today to let you know that this scheme will soon be ending. However at British gas we recognise that some of our customers need a little extra help with their energy bills, so we will be introducing a new scheme that will better meet your needs..
ESSENTIALS TARIFF always gives you our lowest standard rates
The new Essentials Tariff gives you our lowest standard rate for your gas and electricity. We'll be giving you our lowest rate every day of the year .... so you will benefit right away.
Essentials Tariff comes into effect on 12th March 2007. As an eligible customer you don't need to do anything. We've automatically moved you on to the new tariff, so you're already getting the lower rate . 'Without the rain you wouldn't have the rainbows !
I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left!0
