Took me less than 10 minutes to activate my account by dialling this number 0800 00 55 00 today.
The 0800 00 88 00 is completely useless as lots of people have already found out. I tried for a week to register using this number and after waiting for ages on the phone I never managed to get through to anyone to activate my card.

0800 00 55 00 worked for me too. Took about 20 minutes in total from start to finish.0 -

Is that a request for the minority? We weren't asked for anything and a/c up and running.
PS Didn't have a problem myself, nevertheless I sent them an email yesterday morning politely suggesting they pull their finger out regarding telephone answering, don't expect it made any difference but if everyone does it.................:D0 -

Hear, hear sagalout. I emailed them with a similar suggestion. That makes two of us! The reply I got began with ' Sorry for all the hassle . . . .then degenerated into 'we are extremely busy'. Seems like email replies are just as bad as the dreaded telephone recorded messages.
People are being asked for a certified copy of a passport or driving licence? Signed by a JP, doctor or magistrate maybe? Wow! Money laundering safeguards gone crazy. Any self-respecting money launderer would surely want a better return than this account !!!!!!!!! Easier to apply for a passport.0 -

I got it from a bank (natwest). Just said I had applied for an account online, and had been asked to send proof of ID - forgot to mention that it wasn't one of their accounts I was applying for.0 -
Anyone had problems accessing the details of their balance etc? All day mine has just said "Feature temporarily available". It's only been open 3 days!0

There is another thread on here with reference to the experiences people have had with citibank...the vast majority say to give it a wide berth...today I received my card through the post...with what I have read on here, I wont be activating it0

Hi, I'm applying for this one at the moment but got some issues:
When activating my account using my non UK passport online, mine has a < as the next to last digit, but Citibank is expecting a number there...
Called them up (picked up within 4 mins) and they told me that I can try putting a 0 there at my own risk or send in a cop of my passport.
Now the thing is with the postal strike in London and nationally soon, I don't really feel like sending a copy of my passport for a trip. And I don't have a lawyer to certify it for me either. What would be an alternative for a lawyer to certify or to apply online with my actual numbers and <?
The person on the phone didn't let me activate it via the phone...0 -
The postal strike isnt on till at least 6 weeks, if you send it recorded delivery it should get there. Is the account open to non UK people? Might be worth checking that.
I am not sure why people are having so much hassle - pointed out before I had no problems when I opened my account way back in Sep 2008. Just follow some logical steps.
Before trying to go online make sure you activate your account - if there are delays, simply phone back at a less busy time (some say early mornings UK time).0 -

If its only been open for 3 days, that might explain why you cant view your balances. Should allow 7 days as a minimum.0 -
People, forgive me if this is a silly question, but if Citi's bonus is only 2.25% then what's to stop them pulling that rate down to 2.75% (bonus+base rate) once they have sucked punters in? If memory serves me correct, that happened to me with an account at A&L, the rate just slowly trickled down..
With that in mind would it not be better to go with B&B whose bonus is 2.8% (3.3% with the base rate) ?
Applied for Citi and just had enough of their lack of responses...If I'm gonna give someone £50k for example (so they can go flutter on the markets and triple it) I don't expect to have to chase them for information that is delaying my account opening!0
