I've just activated three accounts for myself and family members on the 0800 005500 number and waited under ten minutes on each occasion (thank you so much stompa). I think I may have discovered why it takes so long though, as in each instance I definitely spoke to the same chap! Certainly explains a lot...

And has anyone tried topping it up using a debit card over the phone (the letter said you could do this)...

I asked about this on activation and was told that paying in by debit card has been withdrawn due to problems with fraud and there were no plans to reintroduce it. That doesn't sound right to me but hey, that's what he said.

I think it's odd that the 16 digit number on the card bears no reference to the actual account number and you need to register online to see that for the first time, or am I missing something? (Edited to Add: I see the account no. is actually on the initial email they send you. Still an unusual way of doing things!)

I'm setting up £1.00 trial payments from the accounts I'll be funding the Citibank Saver from and will wait for these to credit, before then sending a £1.00 trial withdrawal to my nominated account. I'll wait for this to work satisfactorily before I transfer any lump sums, as I think there CS would be dire in an emergency.
  • How long did everyone have to wait to hear back from Citybank after submitting their passport details online? It's been 2 days and i've heard nothing....

Yes you are. You can have multiple accounts with them (each with it's own account number), but (AFAIK) you only ever have a single card.

Just now activated my account using the 0800 00 88 00 number.
6 minutes before it was answered so not always bad.

Did you use firefox? Because I used firefox, and the same happened to me...so I use IE and it works fine.

Sorry deleted the bit about not being able to log on after registering for online services.

Im using an account aggregation service. It seems that the password needs to be uppercase.
Didn't realise this because when you log on directly you use the on screen keypad to enter the password.

Works OK in both IE and Firefox for me.

Took me less than 10 minutes to activate my account by dialling this number 0800 00 55 00 today.

The 0800 00 88 00 is completely useless as lots of people have already found out. I tried for a week to register using this number and after waiting for ages on the phone I never managed to get through to anyone to activate my card.
Thank you all for the advice. After three days of pulling my hair out, waiting for a response. I rang 0800 00 55 00, and had a reply within 3 minutes.

See posts 24..28 in this thread. Might be up to 4 days, or might need to send paperwork in the post.

Certified copy of driving license or passport, plus original utility bill, tax bill or bank statement for proof of address.
