With that in mind would it not be better to go with B&B whose bonus is 2.8% (3.3% with the base rate) ?
Possibly, though bear in mind that the B&B is a 60 day notice account.

Citibank UK online transfer limit to your nominated/linked UK bank account.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned. But could anyone confirm Citibank have a daily transfer limit of 10k, to move your money your own nominated linked bank account.

If so, doubt i would bother setting an account up.

Cant confirm but I recall running into the issue - just had a look at a couple of transactions from my account in April 2009, I transferred on same day two lots of 10k. I think therefore the limit applies per transaction and not daily but cannot confirm (only have my own record which suggests that).

When activating my account using my non UK passport online, mine has a < as the next to last digit, but Citibank is expecting a number there...

I had the same problem and left the space free. Worked fine.

It is open to UK residents, which I am, I just don't have a UK passport is all.

The requirement for a mailed copy of the passport is that it has been verified by a lawyer. since that's rather expensive, what alternatives are there?

Thanks for that suggestion, I just left it blank and it went through. Now to hope that it will be accepted! :)

Just to say applied 2pm Friday with email saying being processed.
Got the account opened email 8pm Saturday.
Gotta wait for PIN and a SAVINGS CARD ? I assume in post then call to activate account.

Yeah . . . a pointless piece of plastic with a "Card number" on the front that they could have easily emailed / SMS'd etc just as securely (if not more securely given the story on last night's watchdog about redirected mail). Then you get to phone them up, (which in my case took 3 attempts at 80 minutes plus each time before finding that the website is so poorly arrange and counter intuitive that you'd rather just give up . . .

. . . now maybe my expectations are heightened by the fact that I bank with First Direct who, whether online or offline, are simply brilliant, very intuitive, very helpful, top class people to deal with. Even though their rates aren't brilliant, they'll keep my business because of this.

I like the interest paid monthly feature of the Citi account . . . who else (that doesn't have such a poor set of processes) do a decent rate on an online savings account?

    ING direct?
Slightly less interest (3.2% APR for new customers) monthly interest payments.

Much less hassle opening an account but you do have to mail them a cheque to get the account open (can be for just £1)
    They accept faster payments inbound.

£25 bonus, as a new customer, if you use a referal code (see refers board)

If you are an existing customer close your account wait 3 working days and reapply as a new customer

I am with ING (ex-Kaupthing customer) and my bonus rate dropped to 0.5% so I'm walking away.. However something about ING worries me..

    Key events
    • Ratings agency Moody's announced on 22 September 2009 it is placing ING under review for possible downgrade on the back of concerns over its stability and the cost of insuring its €28bn worth of risky mortgages.
    • ING was downgraded by Fitch on 28 January 2009 due to concerns over the deteriorating Dutch economy and its affect on the bank. The ratings agency notes the group made a loss of €1bn in 2008 and its results are likely to experience further pressure in 2009.

Now I'm sure that saving are protected (I think upto £75k), but who knows how simple/difficult the process is for retrieving should they fold..

I too was with ING as an ex Kaupthing edge customer.
As above I closed the account and have come back 3 days later as a new cutomer.
Personally I have no qualms about placing some of my savings with them.
