Citibank - Flexible Saver Issue 6 - paying 3.25% (3.30% AER)

  • I have been chasing up Citibank for 6 weeks after they provisionally approved my savings account application (the 3.3% one featured on this website) but then failed to send me anything.

Upon phoning them today I discover that my application was declined, even after they said it had been approved after I sent them proof of address.

Even more bizarrely, the account was declined for "security reasons". I asked what those reasons were and they said they couldn't tell me, again for "security reasons"!

I have a perfect credit history and have never been in debt or defaulted on anything. I have no criminal record.

What am I a terrorist or something? On what grounds can they deny your application?

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

daft question but how do you go about transfering money from my Halifax current account into citibank?

I have set up my Halifax current account as payee and I thought I would try an experimental tenner to send across...but it's come back!

    Should work.
Recheck sort code and account number.
Sort code 30-00-45 and your 8 digit account number most likely starting with an 8

Not possible to open a joint account online. Called the 0800 number, which played a recorded message saying go to the website, then hung up.

    My money is going elsewhere.

For balance, I had no problems - I phoned the 0800 00 88 00 number and it was answered immediately after selecting the menu option to activate an account. This was at 4pm and was answered by a UK call centre.
  • Does anyone know that they withdrew this account and replaced it with issue 7, paying only 2.47% gross? The interest rates booklet was updated on 19th November, so I presume that this was the date Issue 6 was replaced with issue 7.

Can anyone confirm this and tell us how account holders can confirm which issue/rate they managed to get? Info about this is not stated on the online banking and it is very difficult to speak to them on the phone at Citi.

This seems to confirm the 18th as last day for Issue 6

This confirms the 19th as start date for Issue 7

  • Newbie here,

I have the flexible saver 6, does this mean the account automatically transfers to the issue 7 and pays that interest? Or will it just continue as before?
