I'm genuinely amazed at the number of respondants to this thread who are grateful and appreciative that Citibank has condescended to take their money after all the hassle of the set-up for most.
But of course you don't really know that 'most' had a problem.

  • Would just like to confirm as well, that I managed to get through to activate my new account by using the 0800 005500 number rather than the 0800 008800 one. Hung on for over an hour on the 0800 008800 before looking through the threads here (live and learn). Took about 10 minutes on the other one, just go through the menus until you get to the one that says press star 0 and you get through to a 'real' person :-)
  • Has anyone had trouble adding a "payee" onto their account? I've tried to add halifax and it says it doesn't recognise the account number!

    Hi jonboy,

I had problems adding a payee. Is it a joint account you've applied for ? The joint account application doesn't ask you to nominate an account for some reason. Plus you can only have 1 nominated account to transfer out. I had to ring them to nominate an account ( I know, book a day's leave for that..............)

It is just a single account I've applied for.

I understand that I can only nominate one account to send money out to (as annoying as this is- with Egg you can send it to any account!!)

BUT do you know if you can credit the account from any bank using the sort and account number? Anyone tried this?

And has anyone tried topping it up using a debit card over the phone (the letter said you could do this)...
  • Also,
Anyone know when citibank will receive faster payments? Currently it seems to be 3 working days, even from banks set up to send faster payments (Halifax/HSBC)

    See http://www.citibank.co.uk/personal/banking/customerinfo/usingyouraccount/movingmoney/fasterpay_faq.htm
When will Citibank offer Faster Payments?
The Citibank Retail business is planning to go live with a Faster Payments service during 2009. We will keep you informed on developments and notify you prior to launch of the service.

But anyway, don't cut off your nose to spite your face for the sake of a couple of guesstimates.[/QUOTE]

Were it only their silly questions. For me, they require ID but will NOT accept an original passport or driving licence. They insist that I must go to my lawyer and obtaining certified copies of - er - passport and driving licence... I also gave up!

    .

I credited the account from a different bank to my nominated one and it took 3 days to arrive. Also dropped the 2 '00's from the start of the account number and it worked fine.

Took me less than 10 minutes to activate my account by dialling this number 0800 00 55 00 today.

The 0800 00 88 00 is completely useless as lots of people have already found out. I tried for a week to register using this number and after waiting for ages on the phone I never managed to get through to anyone to activate my card.
