So - if anyone else has a three contract that they are allowing you to upgrade, despite having 3 months left, BEWARE - you will not begin your new contract until the previous one finishes - so are effectively tying yourself for 21 months, not the 18 you might believe.

I though that was common knowledge to be honest - it is the same on other networks if you are eligible to upgrade early.

Maybe it is on 'early' upgrades - can't find anything on 3's website to clarify. In the past when offered upgrades on other networks, my new contract always started on the day I upgraded and received my new handset - that is why I had assumed the same with 3.

Anyway, they rang last night and it is apprently sorted now. My current contract end date has reverted back to 28/02/10.

Handset LG Viewty now Nokia 5800
Area Atherton and surrounding, with trips in to yorkshire now and again.
Coverage Quite good coverage, been with 3 for 16 months now, and recently upgraded to new contract. The only problem i had with 3 was turning off the answerphone on the LG phone, My handset was set wrong and it answered on 2nd ring. I had to ring 3 on several occassions asking how to turn off the answer phone, and was asked to try a code, but it did not work, i rang a second time and was told over the phone how to extend the time for that handset, i changed it to 20 seconds and no problem since. I have had the handset lose internet conection in Llandulus in Wales when on holiday, other than that I have had no problems with my phone on 3. Their choice of handsets is brief, I give them 8/10 for reliability and User happiness.
  • Further to my original post #1476; I have decided not to stay with 3. The free 3 to 3 calls are minimal, since I know only one other person on the network. The signal is ok at home, but at work it switches to the Orange network, which I am not happy about. It has been known to drop calls as the networks switch. If I am on a 3 call, I have to stay still - not good. Also, because I am using a non-3 phone, my settings keep disappearing and I have to manually re-enter them. I still have £6 credit from my original £10 top up though. I have an old 3 phone laying about. I'll put the sim into that until it is all used up.
    Next stop - Asda mobile.

    Hello,

I was on £18 a month for 500 mins anytime 300 3to 3 and free voice mail, However all my mates have free internet and with me being 16 months into a 18 month contract i rang 3 saying i would like to know what they could offer me on a upgrade.

The guy said i should wait another 2 months because i would get a much better deal and i said about leaving to 02 (mate on it pays £10 a month gets tones free) He said he could save me money and that he would put me on a £15 a month plan of Unlimted internet (1gb) unlimited Texts (3000) Unlimited 3 to 3 (300o mins) and 200 any time mins. This would be on a 30 day contract untill end of April when my contract ends with them and then i can ring up get a new deal. I was shocked that he did this much better deal and i save £3 a month :) I have been with 3 for 5 years now. I want to get a new phone in April and stay on the price plan if possible wonder what i will be offered.

    :)

  • I was with orange pay as you go for 10 years and moved my number to 3 last November. I must say having read some bad press about 3 I was a little dubious but I also thought the tarriffs were too good to be true, so I went for it.

So I rang orange for my PAC code, got the usual "why are you leaving us?" questions. I told them they were too expensive.

I bought the 3 skypephone S2 PAYG for £50 - tenner top up included, I have found this is a great handset. Also great that you can plug it into a pc/laptop and use it as a mobile broadband dongle.

Whilst I was in the 3 shop I asked about coverage and was told that 3 and t-mobile are well underway to merging their 3g networks together - see http://www.mbnl.co.uk/ and they would have far the biggest 3g network than any of the competition. This was true, all over Manchester I get 4/4 bars either 3g or hsdpa (the fastest one). It's the same story up and down the UK's motorway network - great signal and very few problems.

The only glitch I have had is where the handset drops onto 2g, there is a slight delay of about half a minute while it switches over. It is very rare that my phone has gone onto 2g so not much of a problem.

When you move your old number to 3 they give you a complamentry £10 and another £2.50 for registering your name to the sim card.

For a £10 top up with orange I got 300 text , 4mb of slow gprs internet.valid for 30 days.

For a £10 top up with 3 I get 600 text (by topping up with debit card) 150mb of fast b/band internet. 5000 3 to 3 anytime minutes all valid for 90 days.

The best bit is the unlimited free worldwide skype to skype calls and "skype chats" (texts between skypers), this is totally free, you dont need top up at all for this feature, it just carries on working.

Many of my family and friends are now ditching their networks to go with 3, this is helping us all to save money, its great for calling relitives in Australia on skype for free.

The customer services are great too as unlike other networks the calls are free.

    voicemail retreaval? FREE.

Saving loads of money now and never looked back, thanks 3 for a 1st class service with loads of freebies.

  • Just an update on my 3 situation.

    Location: London
    Handset: INQ 3G Mini

Eventually a second handset came in the post. Now I saw the box had been opened as the security sticker was ripped through and another one put on. I guess it was a return then. So, it wasn't new and as it wasn't new I wasn't accepting it. How dare they try to fob me off with a returned or worse phone as a replacement for my new purchased one which has a fault. Against the bloody law actually.

However, they never asked for the other phone back and I wasn't sending anything back until I got a completely new phone and they have just gone quiet. So now I have 2 phones.

Anyway, I ported a number over and got £10 free credit. I have £9.60 left. Why ? because 20p per minute is a total rip off and for that reason, I cannot completely move to 3. I'll use them for Skype and use another phone at 5p per minute for calls and SMS (also 5p). Paying 20p or 4 times as much is just ridiculous.

I'd love to ditch the second phone. I just cannot because 3 are too expensive if you are a low user. I don't use or need a £10 a month plan and even then, the calls work out at 10p per minute, twice what I pay now. Even Asda mobile is only 8p.

So 3 is good for Skype and actually, nothing else.
  • i have used their service only for iternet.. didnt use the mobile ones. but that was good
  • three is still rubbish where I live
