Perhaps one of the answers lies here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Schoolslearninganddevelopment/SchoolLife/DG_10038366
If the rules are set by the governors, then why not become one of them?
That way you will have a say in your child's education, as well as the uniform they have to wear.

I understand that the school want all the kids to wear the same and having the school badge on the uniform is so the children can represent the school and people know where they're from.

A couple of years ago I got a promotion at work which required me to go out and meet clients and senior management at head office, this required me to get a suit for meetings rather than wearing what I wanted in the office like my usual jeans and t-shirt. I didn't refuse the job because it meant buying something that was required to wear though.

Fair enough Hoyles but I'm assuming you had a choice of where to buy your suit from?

But how happy would you have been if you were told you HAD to buy a £700 designer suit because your boss got a nice commission on it instead of a £50 M&S one.

It's nothing to do with having to wear a uniform, it's having to buy an overpriced uniform so the school can cream a nice profit off the top.

Then I would have spoken to whoever I needed to and found out if there was any help available to get the required stuff by explaining that I couldn't afford it, or at least try and come to a compromise.

Unfortunately your new promotion means that you are not eligible for any help and the time to come to some sort of compromise was when this policy was decided six months ago, didn't you hear about the meeting?

Three months after buying your £600 suit, your employer decided that dark grey looks much better than black and asks you to buy a new one - in the interests of compromise, the new look will be phased in over 3 months. :p

congratulations on promotion but as other posters said - I bet firm didnt specify you had to get it from dearest shop in town!!! and this is the main point of the post - the OP did get the kids (3 of them) uniform - it just didnt have the school logo and the logo isnt available separately to sew on.

From what I can see, the OP compromised by getting affordable clothing in the correct colours, but without the school crest. The sensible thing to do, would be for the school to either sell the crests for attachment on to generic school uniform items, or allow uniform to be purchased from more than one supplier, so as to allow competition on price.

The question this school needs to answer, is why they insist on having a single supplier.

And I suppose if there was no help and your boss was insistant that the £700 suit was the only suit acceptable you'd have rolled over like a puppy and thanked him:rolleyes:

Nope but at least I would have asked and known the situation before kicking off and then I would be whether to accept the new job or find a suitable alternative job where there wasn't such demands.

That is of course after I find out if the things I required were available from someone who no longer needed said items at a smaller price.
