Buying a bit each week only works if you are not expecting a child to grow. I had to leave new uniform till the end of the summer as I couldn't risk spending the money and the uniform not fitting, my son is terrible for growing out of his trousers.
Both of my children are at the same high school, with the exception of the polo shirts, the uniform can not be handed from one to another (one of each sex), there are two places to purchase the uniform from, and only one place for the PE kit, but the logos on the PE kit are embroidered on and the pe tops and tracksuit tops also have the child's initials embroidered on.
All the high schools in the area changed to superschools at the same time, with new names, new uniforms and new logos, and the sports shop was working flat out doing the embroidering for the pe kits for 5 years of students in 6 schools, the poor woman was ready for a nervous breakdown the first summer0 -

Many people on here need to learn that, if you have nothing constructive to say then you should keep your thoughts to yourself. I'm just glad I will never have the pleasure of meeting some of you.
I've not been on as there is as yet no update. This will be mentioned at the PTA tomorrow evening when the govenors will be in attendance. My kids have gone to school in their Asda uniforms this week, despite what was said in the letter.
Will update once we get back from the PTA.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Dori20 maybe it would be a good idea to go to the meeting with some compromises to show the school you are not being unreasonable. Suggest that they come up with an iron-on badge that could be used with Adsa/Tesco etc uniform or suggest a second hand uniform shop with the profits going to the PTA (that may be a way to get the PTA on your side giving you more clout with the governors).0

I wondered this too. PTA don't usually have a say on school policy as they aren't elected representatives like governors are (they may be elected postholders but only from the pta itself not parents as a whole). That's what I've always found anyway - fundraisers not policy makers.0 -

Normally that is all they do, but they have a bit of a special meeting every 1st meeting of the new term which the govenors attend so that any problems/quesions can be put to the govenors.
Apparently this is not done in all schools and I never knew about it till Monday, but I think it is a good idea. How else are parents supposed to discuss their concerns with those who make the rules.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Same at my kids school too - the PTA only raise funds and aren't involved with the day to day running or making of rules. However, the OP has mentioned that the governors will be in attendance (assuming they turn up) so this would be a good meeting to question the uniform policy and to find out the official way to make a complaint.0 -

That's a good idea - as you say not at all schools - and not at mine but it does make sense. Good luck - as most people on here have said, why should schools be able to run a monopoly when a uniform (used in it's literal sense of all the same i.e all in the same colour and style) can be achieved so much more cheaply.0
