i would buy the uniform as its the schools policy.

i would find the money and do whatever it takes to ensure my child is provided for.

This thread is going round in circles now.

I don't see the point in capitulating to a cosy little arrangement between the school and a sole retailer and paying more than is necessary, just because it is school policy! Boneheaded policies like that need challenging and that is what the OP is doing as far as I can see.

I don't think any reader of this forum would do anything other than ensure that their child is provided for.

everyone is in the same boat come september, cant understand why people dont budget for it, surely thats what you get child benefit for,

I totally agree with this! I was one of five and we were at three different schools with not enough time for hand me downs in between. My dad worked but my mum didn't. We always had a full logoed uniform which cost a fortune but cheap shoes and coats. My parents put money aside throughout the year and scrimped and saved when school trips came up. I will be doing the same for my two. DS1 starts school next year and we have started saving towards his uniform now as we know that the school has one!

    I totally agree.
Some people seem quite willing to put up with unfair practices and high prices and that is their choice - just don't stop the rest of us from trying to save money.

thats exactly what i do too,, i buy bits each week during summer and throw in socks, knickers, vests with the food shop at asda.

during summer term i will buy a polo one week, jumper the next, pinefore next and so on until i have 3 of each.. then ill save a few quid each week for her shoes which ill then get her feet measured and shoes fitted around 1 week before school.

all in all it came to around £200, but i budgeted and didnt pay out one lump sum which would of seriously hurt my purse.:D

well juby - good for you (I honestly mean that) but could you do that with THREE children to kit out? we are talking £600 + here. I am sure that the OP sent his kids to school in the appropriate colours but as i have said in previous posts - I too have been in situation of school insisting on logo-ed clothes from one extortionate supplier. I fully support Dori2o stance on this. as i have said schools seem to think parents have a money tree in garden and dont take into consideration that some parents have more than one child and the costs soon mount for even better - off parents.
  • It's the rip-off factor that makes me so angry. I went into a dirty little shop at the weekend and shelled out 58 pound for one skirt and one sweatshirt (which my eldest girl had to try on in a storeroom full of boxes!). The woman who served us was rude and unhelpful. The uniform is also not anywhere near the quality of high street shops. As a dedicated bargain hunter and money saver it drives me crazy to feel so ripped off and badly served and have no option to shop around!
And don't even get me started on the subject of all the overpriced day trips and holidays that my three children keep bringing home. I think schools honestly seem to think parents have an unlimited supply of money!

After reading this thread I agree with the OP. Just had to fork out over £100 for a few items (not including trousers and 3 different pairs of footwear plus extra bits like stationery etc.)!). Trouble is we can't go to a shop anymore, it's all done by an online supplier (enough hassle that was), even the school were angry with the service.
It's all too expensive and should be regulated.
Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A

ermm,, yes, thats what i said,, i placed a bet 3 months ago for sophie to win big brother and used that to pay it off.

once again, is that ok with you?

aye OK luv, and if Charlie had won I'm sure you'd have had a bet on him, same with Siavash and Rodrigo I'm sure.

No one has said that school uniforms aren't a must, if you could possibly be bothered to drag yourself away from William Hill and read the thread properly you'd have got by now that it's the lack of an alternative to the one who is charging very high prices that is the issue, but I'm thinking this is a lost cause on you

I think this will explain it better than me,
Can't afford to pay your bills but spending a fortune on your kids uniform? Hmmm
you could have got her uniform at less than half the price and paid the rest towards your debts

Did you have to make a special effort to be spiteful here or did it come naturally?
