Nope but at least I would have asked and known the situation before kicking off and then I would be whether to accept the new job or find a suitable alternative job where there wasn't such demands.

This wasn't the OP's choice of school. The children didn't get into an alternative school.

The parents didn't get a letter about the uniforms until the second day back to school either.

Unfortunately your new promotion means that you are not eligible for any help and the time to come to some sort of compromise was when this policy was decided six months ago, didn't you hear about the meeting?

Three months after buying your £600 suit, your employer decided that dark grey looks much better than black and asks you to buy a new one - in the interests of compromise, the new look will be phased in over 3 months. :p

Then I would have a bloody good moan about it :D:D

But from what I can gather most of the other parents knew the rules and kitted their children out in the correct uniform before term started.

Mind you saying that it's only a couple of days ago I was moaning about a friend packing their daughter off to school in Gucci shoes, saying that my kids would get 'bloody asda's' :rotfl:

But aren't school places allocated March/April time before the start of the academic year in September giving the OP time to find out about the uniform or is the OP saying that the uniform got changed without consultation between those dates?

I'm afraid I agree with OP. My dd has just started high school and her uniform & PE kit incl shoes, bag, equipment etc cost my mum over £250....I'm afraid I couldn't afford it and there was no help available to me (cept from my parents). I had another child of primary school age to kit out too.

Don't get me wrong...I am completely for having a school uniform and a logo BUT...why can't we buy the school tie and badges like my mum did for me when I was at school....we all looked just as good.

Yes, I budgeted and saved for her uniform but as we had no idea of the cost involved and we didn,t get the information until the week before the summer holidays, it was a very difficult situation.

Bring back sew on badges and logos!

  • I swear I am so sick of posts like these, you know school is coming up and you know you have to buy uniform, save up.

Yes correct, the uniform policy changed just before the end of term, without consultation with parents. There are 20 or so sets of parents that the OP know did not get the letter. Whether parents who are sending their children in logoed stuff are doing because they want to or because they have to is obviously not known.

Sounds like a classic case of kids binning letters from school then, but because of do gooders you can't even give them a crack for it :D

Well then the school is definitely at fault as they have to consult with parents/carers etc before changing the uniform and can't just go ahead and do this especially in the small timeframe between a school place being offered and the start of term. Maybe the fault lies with the administration of the school in that they forgot to send out consultation documents to 20 or so sets of parents. The OP should seek clarification with both the governors and their local education department.
