Saxos and dry stone walls are not a good combination, I used to live near holmfirth, which has some great driving roads, but one particular stretch was very popular with the boy racers, If you had the local knowledge, you would know that the farmer would 4 times a week move his herd of cows from one side of the road to the other, this resulted in a nice fat poo stripe on the road.

I have seen 10 bad crashes on that stretch, with 7 of them being fatal, its simply not worth arguing with a dry stone wall.

There's a lot of common sense being spoken on this thread about the need to approach driving with a bit of realism. Motorway speed limits in particular are no guide whatsoever to safe driving.

You had better tell that to the police then.

So as long as almost everybody else is quite happy to flout the law, that makes it all OK then?

Why is everyone in this country in such a tearing hurry anyway?

Nobody actually gets anywhere any quicker.

I don't dawdle, I drive up to the legal speed limit, when safe to do so, I am happy with that.

But that's my point, your speedo days 70 but you could in reality be doing just over 60. If you sit in the outside lane taking all day to overtake you are holding traffic up even if they arent breaking the law.

As I said before, I drive many cars big and small and rarely have a problem. If you are getting a lot of tailgaters your driving is probably half the problem.

Take it up with the car makers then, not my problem, I go by what my speedo states.

Of course it would never be the fault of the tailgaiters would it?

Nothing wrong with my driving, I hold an IAM Certificate and also have a HGV 1 licence. as well as a full clean car and motor cycle licence.

It's not what you drive but how you drive! :)

In motorways, as long as you are driving on left most lane, no one really bothers about how fast you're going.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Show me a documented statement from the police about your last paragraph, then I may well consider the matter, until then I will stay within the law.

    How about ACPO guidelines:

"Where police officers consider that an offence has been committed i.e. that a motorist has driven at any speed over the relevant speed limit, they should consider whether it is appropriate to take enforcement action against the offender."

    http://www.pepipoo.com/files/ACPO/ACPO_enforcement_guidelines.htm

It's clear from this that ACPO tells officers that while an offence may well have been committed, the circumstances and associated risk should be taken into account when deciding on a course of action. Cases may well result in action being taken, but it at the officers discretion - not, in any way, a given.

Happens all the time. Especially BMW drivers. I had three of them this morning tailgating me despite me overtaking at 70mph+

Of course it does, if you went at 80mph they would still be there sitting on your rear bumper.

They are arrogant, inconsiderate and have a deluded sense of self importance.
