In the UK it is proper to drive in the left hand lane and only use the right hand lanes for over taking. This is what I do and surprise surprise I never have the problems the OP talks of.
My conclusion - if someone is up your behind trying to intimidate you its probably because you're driving like a plonker and you need to get over to the left hand lane.
I get irritated when people in front of me finish overtaking whatever is in the middle lane but then refuse to move over to let me through. Then they act all affronted when I flash my lights because they're not paying attention to the road around them. To them I probably come across as the stereotypical BMW driver, but I don't care. I'm not out to intimidate other people, I just want to get to where I want to go without being held up by inconsiderate drivers who aren't capable of looking in their mirrors.0 -
Take it up with the car makers then, not my problem, I go by what my speedo states.
Of course it would never be the fault of the tailgaiters would it?
Nothing wrong with my driving, I hold an IAM Certificate and also have a HGV 1 licence. as well as a full clean car and motor cycle licence.
I never said it wasn't the tailaiters fault, tailgaiting is bad news and not something I do myself but poor lane discapline is just as bad in my oppinion.0 -

You will obviously as a " considerate " driver be travelling at no more than 70 mph in your BMW.. :rolleyes:0 -

I don't recall having suggested that bad lane discipline was a good thing, it isn't, correct me if I am wrong.0 -

I fail too see how a driver on the receiving end of a tailgaiter, doing everything within the law, could be remotely to blame, I am sure the police would agree with that as well.
Whatever happened to the " two second rule "?0 -

And of course the driver in front of me is always sticking rigidly to the limit whereas me in my big bad BMW is tailgating, shouting, swearing etc. in an attempt to harass the law-obiding citizen into driving at 71 mph
Speed is irrelevant to my point, which is that if drivers moved into the inside lane when they finished overtaking, I wouldn't need to flash my lights to tell them there are other cars waiting to overtake them. Then they wouldn't feel intimidated by the nasty howwid man in his 3-series, I could get on with my journey and the world goes on with everyone feeling happy. "Consideration" works both ways.0 -

I thought light flashing was supposed to be just to alert other road users to a car's presence. It sounds very much like you are using yours to intimidate other drivers.
But it is OK we expect you to do that given your choice of ride.

Agree totally. I wonder how many fewer accidents there would be on our roads if everyone adhered to that.0
