I had a company Megane as my first car and never noticed any problems. I then bought myself a new little Ka and the change was instant. When I was younger I did drive a lot faster on the motorway than I do now, but I still always had people up my backside. I can remember telling H (before he was H!) about it and then when he drove my car he noticed the same. Also people would not move over for me to overtake them.

The Ka was replaced with a big BMW and the exact opposite happened. People would actually move out of the way for me without me even waiting - the contrast must have been so marked for me because I was used to people being obstructive.

But are you sure you are doing 70 mph - you might be going slower - I which case I would say doing something like that is a bit inconsiderate.

Provided they are actually overtaking, and not just sitting there keeping pace with the vehicles on the nearside lane or just sitting there with no traffic on the inside, then doing 65+ is fine.

And anybody who thinks that you are inconsiderate if you are not doing 70+ in the outside lane is a (insert banned word of choice).

I'd say that there are a few people who expect everything else to get out of the way. However, if you suffering almost constant trouble then you might well be the problem. I sometimes end up behind people who won't pull over until there is at least a 2 mile clear section in front of them. I keep an eye on the rear at all times and if something is bearing down on me I'll nip out of the way, let them past and then pull back out. When it all works it's great.

Agreed, however if I am overtaking at 70 mph in the 3rd lane, a car that is doing 67/8 mph in the 2nd lane, then sorry the plonkers driving their BMW's up my backside will just have to be patient.

    Tough.

If you did this on the M40 on a Friday afternoon then you have half a mile worth of "plonkers" behind you. Please check your mirrors because you could really wind people up who wish to drive at a more realistic motorway speed.

If we can't use our speedos to say what speed we are driving, then what the hell are we supposed to use?

Seeing that you can easily travel along a mway at 80 indicated and never be bothered by police then I suggest that when busy you use this sort of speed to overtake. 80 indicated will be around 75mph real speed.

    I do find this irritating.

What I do find quite funny though, is how quickly these gentlemens balls shrink as soon as they're confronted with their !!!! poor driving.

I remember driving in a mates 1.1 punto, had some guy in a BMW sat on his bumper trying to intimdate him and get him to go faster in a 30 zone. Got to the first set of traffic lights, took our seatbelts off and got out the car. "Sorry mate, sorry, i was just in a rush thats all i wont do it again, sorry" :rotfl:

On Motorways I tend to just move over and let them pass, they're just not worth it. At the end of the day it's their license, if they want to throw it out the window then let 'em. Aslong as it's not at the cost of harming any other motorists.

I think the problem lies with HGV's. They should only be allowed in lane 1 seeing as they are all limited to the same top speed. One wagon over taking another causes lane 2 to slow down suddenly, lane 3 becomes slower, people brake which makes a slow moving clump of vehicles for the next 3 miles or so

I get it VERY rarely, and I don't do it. Was sat on a dual carriageway (in shropshire), in the outside lane, on the run-up to a roundabout on which I required the innermost lane (right turn). Doing 70 according to the speedo, when a HUGE SAAB something steams right up my !!!!. Ignore.

Flash. Ignore. Flash, flash. Ignore. Lots of continual flashing followed by "surging" up behind and backing off...more ignore, lift off gently, bring the speed down to about..65ish.

Roundabout in sight. Get horn, more flashing. Then he goes to undertake. As he draws level, missus winds down window, flashes at him with a finger raised, I completed the turn, he ended up in totally the wrong lane looking MOST annoyed.

In the old car I had a convertible sitting RIGHT on my bumper at 60 (single carriageway). Pigeons in road eating roadkill. Can't swerve or brake sharp, or I'll get rear-ended.

One pigeon flew off, the other smacked into my grille, bounced into the windscreen, rolled up, thumped over my roof, flipped off the boot spoiler (MG Maestro)....and dropped RIGHT over their windscreen into their car. I carried on and saw them, in the mirror, swerve off the road and up the verge/embankment, coming to rest in a hedge and a cloud of feathers.

I had to pull over, I was howling with laughter...bad luck for the pigeon, serves the convertible right!

    Hi,

I do not drive slow and my car is pretty nippy, if i am overtaking at say 80mph (tut tut) then i can guarantee a big car will be behind me pushing me to get back in the other lane.
Why should i sit behind a car doing 60mph??? I would like to get home at a decent hour.
Just wanted to ask if anyone else has noticed this? What do you do? Ignore them and carry on your merry way? or do you go slower on purpose to annoy them?:rotfl:
Or are you one of the said bully's in your big cars?

    Thanks,

I have to say I have and it makes me so fricking angry mainly because my son is 9 times out of ten on board and personally I would rather someone didnt try and knock my car off the road with my 2 year old on board. I get some places with my blood boiling but its also starting to put me off driving tbh, to the point that rather than driving to college this sept I plan to get the train for a year! I cant face the abuse you get!
