Yes, yes I too of course drive spot on 70mph on the motorway as indicated on my speedo :p it's totally realistic and I have no doubts that the planet will survive another couple of days as a result of my reduced CO2 emissions :rotfl:

Nothing to do with " carbon emmisions " I value my clean driving record and I ain't going to risk it for the sake of getting to the next traffic jam a few seconds in front of the next guy.

get it quite a bit in my little fiat - even though it can go at a fair lick when its got its speed up - the typical "rep" type vehicles dont like it seeming to be in the way - even though I could be in a line of traffic all going at the same speed.
Stangely when I'm on the bike and doing the same sort of speed, the same guys will move to allow me to overtake without much fuss.

I think its funny to watch how peoples unconscious urge to overtake anything in the lane to the left will make them close the gap to the vehicle infront of them. Try it and see - especially if there is little or no traffic in the middle lane - move into it and watch the gap you left close -
If you keep pace with the traffic in outside lane, they will also generally move to block you so you wont get back in again infront of them.

  • Lot of BMW bashing going on here - perhaps there is an explanation. A lot of cars I have driven have speedos that are quite a bit out over-reading the speed by quite a bit. In most BMWs I have driven the speedo is usually quite accurate - within 1 mph of GPS indicated speed.

This means you might come up behind some idiot in the outside land that thinks they are going at 80 mph when actually dawdling along 70.

" Dawdling " at the maximum legal speed limit, this obviously only applies to those not driving BMW's.

Obviously I wouldn't endorse going over the speed limit - Of course I was talking about driving in Germany on the Autobahn.

The principal is the same though - just because you fancy yourself as a bit of a speed demon that doesn't mean you have the right to block the road up by cruising along in the right hand lane. In the UK it is proper to drive in the left hand lane and only use the right hand lanes for over taking. This is what I do and surprise surprise I never have the problems the OP talks of.

My conclusion - if someone is up your behind trying to intimidate you its probably because you're driving like a plonker and you need to get over to the left hand lane.

Agreed, however if I am overtaking at 70 mph in the 3rd lane, a car that is doing 67/8 mph in the 2nd lane, then sorry the plonkers driving their BMW's up my backside will just have to be patient.

    Tough.

But are you sure you are doing 70 mph - you might be going slower - I which case I would say doing something like that is a bit inconsiderate.
