Is there any bank you have NEVER had an issue with

A&L have given us two years of hell which we were unable to escape from as they plunged us into debt as we opened the accounts by screwing up their "easy switch" service; failing to apply some DD and paying others twice! Hard worked for Credit scores messed up irrevocably; latest is that they changed a cash payment into my partners account from £260 to £160 without any consultation, today they had failed to have a cheque cleared which they had stated would be clear by today. Now that sounds petty, but this was my only day off for months (self employed) I'd planned to recklessly go to the hairdressers, have coffee and maybe buy a new (and cheap) top. I wont have another day off for ages and they wrecked it by giving out "misinformation". Staff in only office locally are useless and only say "all we can do is apologies", well if I misinformed like this or got payments wrong I'd be fined for it! Obviously this is just a couple of memorable highlights from nearly two years of Hell!
Sick of A&L being recommended as a bank account - they couldn’t organise a moderately entertaining evening in a brewery.
They ignore letters of complaint until threatened with IFA, phone staff are aggressive and useless and I cant figure out what the in-store staff are being paid for at all. If they do deal with a complaint it takes months and when an agreement is reached they "forget" to re-pay or re-instate and then cant understand past notes! Yet again I have spent a day chasing round after them and now I need to find a bank with any kind of brains (and ethics hopefully - though that may be asking too much!)
I am so glad that others have posted their horrible experiences as they make you feel you are the only one to doubt their genius service!
Its hugely annoying when the only focus for recommending this account seems to be a £100 bonus - it cost us so much more than that in cash and lost credit rating and in the stress caused by the appalling customer services!0 -
Excellent by a long way- First Direct, Chelsea BS, Yorkshire BS
Very Good - HSBC, although the overseas call centres are very hit and miss. If you ever have cause to complain they do seem to take it seriously and try and oput things right
Good - Halifax
Bad - Nationwide, what on earth has gone wrong with this organisation? the 'customer service' is just non existent and can the staff be any more surly?0 -
no issues with RBS and Halifax
been with RBS for about 5 years and halifax since the beg of this year (although i rarely use this account)0 -
As the title states - I thought it would be interesting to find out people's experiences of banks that they have had no, or only very minor problems (like debit card a couple of days late, etc) with.
While we all like to complain, there's rarely a thread of praise!
I have had my main current account with First Direct since June 1990 (over 19 years) and they have given me nothing but good service throughout.
Having said that, some of threir interest rates are a bit rubbish but you can't have everything. But I am happy with the 7% regular ISA and the newly opened 5% regular saver. The bulk of my savings are elsewhere.0 -

Yes, I switched from NatWest because they were merde.
At the time First Direct were paying 9% on their current account and 12% on their savings account. If I remember correectly, they were net rates, because all interest was paid net to everybody in those days.
Base Rate was 15% by the way, to put those rates into context.
PS: I'm not that old though.0 -

I bank with Barclays and Halifax, and never had any issues with them (so far).0

The Good
I've been with Nationwide for about 11 years and any problems I have had with them have all been sorted by friendly and helpful branch staff. Disappointed they seem to have lost their way a bit with their products (nothing that stands out even though they are a mutual and run for their members).
The Bad
I hate it that everytime I phone Alliance and Leicester they try to sell me something like a current account or savings account
The Ugly
The Halifax. Messed up every piece of paperwork that went their way. Staff stand around in branch chatting while queues go out of door. Don't even have the basic courtesy to respond to complaint letters. (When my mum worked for them their attitude was we're the biggest, let's do what we want. Personally I'm glad they will most likely vanish as part of the merger with LTSB, their staff might realise how badly they treated Leeds Perm staff during the [STRIKE]takeover [/STRIKE]merger many years ago)0 -
The Fantastic:
Cater Allen, never a problem, I can ring my branch without a problem, speak to with named and well trained staff who can actually action what you want to do without jumping threw numerous hoops. They never send me junkmail.
The Bad:
Halifax, hopeless beyond belief, if they can screw something up they will.0
