They don't get much love in here, but overall I'm happy with Barclays, never had cause to complain. the Co-op were great because of their ethical stance etc, but try finding a branch! I did have a lot of problems with HSBC, but looking back, it's likely that they were just objecting to how I ran my account!

Oh, and Yorkshire Building society - Brilliant, great staff and a really good contract centre
  • Citi bank is great - never had any issues with them
Nationwide - no problem but I haven't really used much of their products

barclays - can't really sing praises for them. haven't been with them long but quite a few problems
    1) went into branch to open a joint account. said it would be a week or two. but in the end took almost two months to open
    2) just recently a bank transfer got bounced out for no apparent reason - there is sufficent fund and a similar transaction has been done in the past with no problem so the sort code/account number definitely has no problem
    3) wanted to change my address. told I couldn't change it online, need to mail in a form. Mailed in the form, two weeks later, got a letter back saying my signature doesn't match with the one on profile, which I thought was really odd. went to the branch, was told that the signature matches, but I simply could not mail in a form to change the address and had to come into the branch. Why couldn't they just tell me straight in the letter they sent? And why the online information tells me to mail a form if they need me to go into the branch?

also, the local branch only opens mon-fri, so makes it difficult to go in given there isn't a branch open close to work. Citibank allows address change online and Nationwide allows it through mail. Going into the branch is a real hassle.

Overall it just seems that their online banking teams are not talking to their branches, so there is a lot of wrong information and miscommunication.

I have banked with halifax since I was about 13 and I've never had any problems/issues with them... although I realise I may be in the minority!

    Good:
Intellegent Finance (had account years ago, with no issues)
Lloyds TSB - Only one issue but got solved eventually
    Nationwide - Mortgage & CC

Bad, to the point of the worst ever:

BARCLAYS - really messed up from account opening to now (Still waiting for SEVEN complaints to be resolved and went back to Lloyds TSB)
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
  • I am with Lloyds, Citi Bank and Nationwide, have not had any problems with any of them, can only fault Citi as they do not offer me as much as the other two, and I rate Nationwide the most, as they seem to give me what I want, happy customer.
  • I've never had any issues with Natwest.

You must be the minority, I would NEVER bank with that cowboy outfit ever again, total nightmare from start to finish, would rather keep my money in a cow shed, if they were the only bank left trading.
