Is there any bank you have NEVER had an issue with

Smile & Julian Hodge Bank, never any problems whatsoever, superb and knowledgeable (in my experience) customer service.
Although the thread title doesn't ask! Barclays, guilty of theft 40+ years ago for which I eventually got my revenge by opening a current account last year and receiving £100 for doing so. Closed on receipt of £100.
Thread title states "banks" so I'll omit building societies.0 -
Bank of mum & dad
I agree, well its bank of mum. Never had a problem with the interest free loans
I have had minor problems with Halifax, but mostly due to me being naive when I was 19. (couple of charges).
HSBC have been quite good too. Never had any problems and I like the fact that if you go over your overdraft limit by less than £10 you don't get charged anything and if you go over by more they don't charge you more than you went over by. Although if they don't send me my new debit card by Monday - then I'll be annoyed!0 -
I have been a customer of Halifax since April 1990. In 2005, I was made redundant and as a result fell behind with some payments to the Halifax Credit Card. All is back on track now but for the last 12 months I have been fighting a battle with them.
In August 2008 I simply asked them to write off my £450 current account overdraft on the basis that I was still struggling to make ends meet after being made redundant 3 years prior. I mentioned that Halifax Credit Card Services had offered to write off up to half of the card balance which would equate to about £1600 being written off.
Halifax simply wrote back and said it was not possible to write off the overdraft and from there on, ignored all future correspondance.
I then contacted the Financial Ombudsman in February this year to seek advice and help. Last week, the Ombudsman Office called me to say they could do nothing to help and that Halifax deny saying they would write off £1600 even though I have it in writing from them (copies were sent to Ombudsman).
How then can Halifax write off £1600 but not £450 ?? So, as a result, I have handed over my account to Payplan and asked them to deal with Halifax on my behalf and they are now paying Halifax £3 per month which means the balance will be paid up in the next 12.5 years. How can Halifax justify allowing that ??
Halifax Customer Service Department provide no customer service because they simply ignore all letters and emails sent to them and when discussing things on the phone, they effectively call me a liar claiming they never offered to write off £1600 despite me having it in writing from them.
Halifax must surely be the worst bank to deal with and after nearly 20 years of banking with them, I am now having no dealings with them except via Payplan.
Make them wait for their money is all I can do now because at the rate I am paying them per month, it will take in excess of 12 years to clear the balances with them.

Happy banking with: Smile, First Direct, Cahoot
Okay banking with: Barclays

First Direct rock. You ring them, and they answer the phone! Sounds simple but after months of problems with Nationwide who are the most incompetent bunch of people I have ever come across, they were refreshingly good.0

Barclays, have been with them years and have never had any problems.0

Totally satisfied with Lloyds TSB, no problems either with Natwest. Completely unhappy with Abbey.

Never had any issues with:
HSBC
Barclays
Natwest
Kent Reliance
Issues but sorted:
Abbey lol
Lloyds
First Direct
Bad :
Halifax
But as someone said (think it was BarclaysManager), an opinion of a bank is purely subjective. Whilst I ve never had a problem with NatWest, I don't like them much because of their location, nore do I like HSBC because of the staff thereOriginally Posted by Dr Cuckoo3

Been Great :T :j:
Egg - Great range of products, excellent customer service when/if required and able to message them via online banking. Wholeheartedly recommend them.
Natwest - Been with for years now and never had problems. When I move to Scotland there's only one branch but is good as it has the full range of faster payments. Also have been fine on the phone whenever I have called.
RBS - Always granted me increases in student overdraft, branch network is getting better south of the border which is ALWAYS empty.
Nationwide - Despite removing interest on the flex account, increasing costs for overseas spending and no faster payments, they were very good with me when I complained about this (saying the benefits I signed up for had gone). They rung me up and we had a fruitful chat on the phone addressing the issues and the guy sounded like he took my point of view on board. They also refunded me a charge for when a direct debit was wrongly taken by Egg.
Some Issues
:
Halifax - they put my middle name on my card which I thought was weird which meant I had to go to a branch to change rather than via the phone. The internet banking is very good however and no need for a card reader.
Problems with  :
IceSave, Kaupthing and Dunfirmline (all went belly up - don't follow my advice where to put your money for safety
)
I would say that you only have issues with your bank if you run into the red. Otherwise, 99.9% of the time the card works, they will contact you if there's suspicious activity etc... I just wish more branches were open all day Saturday (e.g. RBS is where I live).0 -
