  • Jesus. Re-reading this thread is a terrifying example of how judgmental, narrow-minded and offensive some people are.

Aye, on both sides of the 'debate'.

It's nothing to do with my perception. "Enjoying" smoking is actually the meeting of a chemical desire (addiction). You satisfy the addiction, you believe you are enjoying it. This is part of why I won't start smoking; I won't be slave to a chemical

That's not the whole truth tho is it? Qualitative research shows that the average smoker doesn't enjoy in the traditional sense all of the cigarettes they smoke in a day, many are simply relieving cravings. HOWEVER there are some cigarettes that individual smokers will consistently describe as pleasurable, and these are not necessarily the ones smoked when blood nicotine levels are low.

p.s. I live in the country and OBVIOUSLY one cigarette doesnt add up to a city worth of cars....were not stupid!

BUT cars dont cause cancer as easily as cigarettes do and all the time we are improving cars to reduce this, that said I still only use my car (As a disabled driver) when I HAVE to

And not all hospitals inforce the no smoking within so many feet rule, its just signs THAT ARE IGNORED

just stay in and stench out your own lungs if you smoke, ive no time for smokers SORRY

"SORRY"? You clearly aren't, so don't say it. Man I wish I could sue liars.
Do you need it? Yep. Really? Yes! How have you managed for the last 28 years without it? Erm....

I think people are going to have to agree to disagree on this subject! I personally can't stand smoking, but if other people want to do it, thats up to them. I'm never rude to them, I just stay away from them. I have encountered many rude smokers in my time, but then i've encountered many rude drivers, shop assistants etc. As long as it doesn't effect me, i'm quite happy for people to do as they please.

Just don't get me started on people who smoke with kids in the car, I see it at least every day and it does make me very cross.

P.S. went to Worcester this morning for an optician appointment. Drove there in my poluting car. Had to, otherwise I'd have spent the night walking and wouldn't make it work on time. Obviously, parked in the car park and not right slap-bang in the middle of the shopping centre. Inhaled smoke the entire time I was outdoors despite my best efforts to walk around the smokers. Things is, for every one I walked around, I walked into another. And there they were, outside WH Smith's doorway so there smoke was blowing into the shop. Could I have avoided them? Well no, I'd really rather look after my sight if it's all the same to all you ardent smokers.

And if you can't see you are dressing up the convenience of you driving as needing to drive then there really is no hope for you. Choose to live somewhere on a regular bus route, choose to buy a bicycle and get fitter, choose to get up earlier, choose to book the appointment on a day you have more time, choose to take half a day off work.

You are coming across as hypocritical and that's coming from a non-smoker. I have survived to age 36 without driving a car, as have millions of other people on the planet.

No-one is forced to smoke outside. No-one is forced to smoke anywhere. They choose to do so. It is prohibited indoors, which is a perfectly reasonable thing in a civilised society.;)

We choose to smoke it is the anti smoking lobby that forced us to smoke outside and I dont think it is a perfectly reasonable thing in a so called civilised society

    But they don't enjoy it.

Or because they are unable to resist the chemical draw rather than because they "want" to?

I can tell you that smokers don't "enjoy" smoking. This a well established fact. It's all to do with chemical craving.

is it !!!!. i enjoy having a fag sometimes. and i dont get the chemical craving you so bleat about, i can quite happily go without a fag and without a craving. but sometimes i want a fag and enjoy it.

oh and im female by the way.

    Im totally with you

I really shouldnt make this public, But think they should make them more dangerous to kill off smokers quicker and then ban them.....ok its a bit harsh but im totally sick of being forced to either sit in my house or breath in harmful toxins for my unborn baby

its discgusting, and smokers should be more considerate and smoke in a gasmask or just die off

who made you the third reich?
